    Tracy McGrady

I just want to say how much I hope T-Mac can get back to half the player he was. He is still only 31 and he's only been out for 2 years. It's not impossible to think he could be an all star again. Is it?

    Not a chance.

Look up Jalen Rose, Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Anfernee Hardaway......long list of great stars/scorers who turned 30 and were out of the league shortly thereafter.

McGrady is also a player that is said to have lacked work ethic and good practice habits. Those things really effect players later in career. Players who take care of their bodies play longer.

Turning 30 had nothing to do with Mashburn & Hardaway's declines. Hardaway was crushed with injury after injury. and Mashburn had an injury that forced him to change his entire game and the way he played, and eventually forced him out of the league.

and Jalen Rose actually had 3 really good years from ages 30 to 33, so you can't say he hit 30 and fell off.

but to answer the OP, no, I can't see T-Mac reaching an all-star level again. all of his explosiveness seems to be gone. he can't create a shot for himself the way he used to, and he's not a good enough spot up shooter to put up big numbers from the perimeter.

You do know that McGrady had a terrible knee injury too.....

Jalen Rose did have a few solid years in Toronto but his play did slip.

Anyways those who make it over 30 playing at an elite level, especially after playing in the NBA out of highschool is a small list.

Yeah, I know McGrady has had injuries.

I responded the way I did because you made it sound like all of those guys just slipped because they turned 30. You made no reference to injuries. You just said they hit 30, and then...they were gone.

Honestly it is really like that for most players. I have been doing some research, mostly to do with NBA 2k where players are scoring 30ppg when they are 38, and I found that players who are still playing well after 30 is quite rare. Look up some of your favorite players and you will see a drop in stats and play after 30.

The players who adapt the best after 30 are either 1) the ones whose games were never dependent much on athleticism or 2) the ones with the work ethic to adapt their games when they aged.

In my opinion, it really has less to do with the age, and more to do with the mileage. That's one thing that impresses me most about Kobe, the guy at 32 has probably logged heavier minutes than any star perimeter player before him, and he's still a top 3 player.

I thought this was a brand new topic...because when i turned to the Lakers-Pistons game Mcgrady had just got fouled and was laying on the floor in pain. Shoot his 2 free throws and barely could move, had to take a foul to get him out the game.

Its time to hang em up, tracy mcgrady

                    His body betrayed him.

                    It happens.

He just isnt able to handle NBA pounding anymore.

He's had a nice career, and made a lot of money.

There's no shame in hanging it up, and enjoying the rest of your life.

Thanks for the replies. I hear what you are all saying, and I know you're right, but I just don't want to give up on tmac. He was my favourite player growing up and I hope he at least gets a chance to rebuild his strength, explosiveness etc tmac used to have an incredible jumper. I just rewatched when he got 13 real quick.
Ah well. Hopefully he gets a hunger for some success and works his butt off to get some of his glory back

                        Re: Tracy McGrady

Well the eulogy was all real nice guys, but I don't think you guys know that McGrady has played pretty damn well this season.

He started off the season playing as a distributor, something Detroit needed. Did a good job.

Then a few weeks ago, his jumpshot came back.

Also in the past few weeks he started taking the ball to the rack again, has had success. And last night he dunked on Haywood of Dallas.

He isn't done. His leg isn't supposed to be 100% back into shape until January and he is still playing well while building up strength on it. Arnie Kander has helped him the way he helped McDyess.

He isn't as quick or athletic as he used to be. But T-Mac always was a smart player, something that he never really had to showcase when he was able to dunk over everybody. He has shown that by coming out and basically playing Point Guard and running the Pistons offense for the first month of the season. He was setting people up for good looks like Chauncey used to.

When he was on the floor agaisnt the Lakers a few nights ago and limped off the court? He was back playing 5 minutes later. Didn't miss a beat.

Take it from somebody who has watched him almost every minute this season, he isn't done. And he is showing people that.

Go check his highlights this year from NBA.com. He is doing everything you guys are saying he can't do anymore. His numbers dont say much because he is the 5th guard here in Detroit. But he is making the plays he used to make. He's doing a little bit of everything.
