Stress fracture found in Yao Ming's left ankle

Rockets center Yao Ming’s comeback suffered another devastating setback with a stress fracture found Thursday morning in his left ankle.

The injury is not in the same area as the previous stress fracture, but it is a major setback.

Tests taken after his Nov. 10 sprained ankle and subsequently did not show the injury.

    Rockets.com Press Release:
HOUSTON - An MRI performed today on Rockets center Yao Ming revealed a stress fracture of the Medial Malleolus in his left ankle. The fracture, which is related to his previous injury of the Tarsal Navicular bone, presented itself during the course of his current rehabilitation program. There is no timetable for his return at this time.

The team will have no additional comment at this time. Information regarding his treatment program will be made available at a later date.

He said before he's done if he cannot stay healthy, so I guess he is done. Love to see him give it one more shot though.

It's over with for Yao. Can't say i'm too surprised this time either because they kept pushing his return date back and back.

It's a damn shame. He is so good for the NBA globally, and his personality is golden.

About 24 months ago or so he was the best center in the NBA...by a long way. It looked like he'd be an MVP type player for the next five years.

But his feet just aren't capable of carrying that type of body up and down the court 100000s of times a year.

Even the 24 minutes a game idea has failed.

            Sad stuff.

He's done and will now become one of the biggest (no pun intended) What Ifs? in the history of the NBA.

Yes, dude was just hitting his prime. Literally he was just hitting his prime and it showed during the Laker series and ever since then we never got to see how he would handle it. At this point he truly became unstoppable in the low post, it was brief but it was fun to watch.

I think it's over for him, definitely as a star/franchise player in the league. It just wasn't meant to be. He was such an asset to the league too.

As sad as it is, it's over. I really don't want to see him try to come back again. It's just not worth putting his body through this anymore.

Another "what if?" to add to NBA history, I guess.

This is such a shame. Yao always seemed like such a nice guy and I loved watching him play, it's just a damn shame. It'd be nice if he could make a comeback, but I just don't see any way that that could could happen.

Why would this end his career? Fractures heal pretty quickly, but is it the fact that he's 7 feet-whatever tall that makes it career ending?

I remember reading that China makes him play for some team over there in the NBA offseason, that he doesn't get a break to heal.

If that's the case he should sue for damages; But I doubt he wants to hurt his rep in China, they'd probably have him killed.

Dude, it's not just one instance. He needs to retire to save himself.

Yao is one of the best players in NBA history. If I needed one guy in a game 7, I wouldn't be upset with taking Yao. He never hit his prime either.

A lot of guys can make it into the league just because they are tall. But Yao had a great shooting touch. Had great post moves. He was as unguardable as anybody, ever. A 7'6 foot guy that can kill you in the post, hit a 15 foot jumper, or shoot 85% from the free throw line? he was an amazing player but better person.

Yeah, considering he's out for the season and Miami is guaranteed to win a ring and all.
