Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC

Wasn't it a possibility that Perkins could become a free agent after this summer? Maybe they didn't want to chance not getting anything for him since they probably couldn't afford him.

It's the only thing I can think of because the move definitely hurts the Celtics defensively and makes them worse off in the short run.

On the other hand, it's a great move for the Thunder. Perkins can defend bigs as well as help on penetrating guards. They'll be a tough out in the playoffs.

He had already come out and said that he was going to test the free agent market and there are plenty of teams that could have, and would have, offered more money than the Celtics could have.

This is without question top 5 worst days of my life.

#1 will be getting knocked out early in the postseason.

Yeah I'm sure this trade will work out fine for the Celtics, short and long term.

Does OKC pony up and pay Perk this summer?

That's why I didn't understand all of the earlier comments. Still a great front line and Green to help the transition years from now. Seems like a good trade to me. I think people overrate Perkins a bit too... and that's when we know he's 100% or will ever be again.

                I will say this:

Jeff Green will be an important piece of the puzzle in a few years, when KG doesn't have any of it anymore.

However, I don't think it was wise to throw away a Finals appearance for the future.

Also, how about life coming full circle? Jeff Green was part of the package that the Celtics traded to get Ray Allen.

I've had 2 or 3 really bad days, so the next 2 I could really just make up.

Too early to say that IMO. In a few years the Celtics will probably be a mid-tier team at best once the Big 3 are gone. If he's the 2nd best player on a .500 team I'm not sure how "important" he'll be.

So why is everyone saying what a bad trade this was? You guys would be a lot more pissed if he left for nothing.

It took all of about 10 minutes for most people to realize this was a smart trade for Boston. Give 'em credit for not ignoring the future. They're still the team to beat in the East (and NBA IMO) and are better set for the future now.

                            I think they'll be ok.

Bynum ain't playing 30 minutes. KG can check him for 18.

Yeah, really all Boston needs is a body big enough to keep Bynum off the glass. Shaq/KG/Kristic will probably be able to get the job done.

Still not seeing how this makes them worse to be honest. Perkins isn't THAT good and Kristic isn't THAT bad. Nate was unnecessary with West and others now on the team. And Perkins' value isn't as great as it was last year considering they have other big bodies (Shaq, Jermain, Kristic) that they didn't have to rotate in last year and Perkins is probably not 100%.

Good trade if you ask me.
