Celtics will be fine. As much as it hurts to see Perk leave, I've come to the realization that this board is always wrong.

WTH? hahahahahaha
I'm almost certain this board always has two sides of every issue. So I have no clue as to how you could rationalize such a dumb statement.Comment

Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC
Shouldn't have put little but I believe his impact is overrated.
Perkins played 5 full games. In those fives games here is the difference in rebounds for Boston.
(REB) = Perkins
-11 (3)
+5 (6) (Rondo 12)
-8 (11)
+7 (7)
+1 (7)
Does he make an impact? Yes. Is it a series changing impact, I don't believe so.
Bynum was MIA in the series offensively and seemed little to do with Perkins. Gasol's production didn't seem to improve in the two games without Perkins either based on the series.
As I said, we'll see but I don't think it is a doom and gloom trade.Comment

Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC
Yeah I wouldn't go that far, but I would say that they aren't the same lock that they were before this. As for his worth in game 7, playoff basketball, especially a that stage of the game is all about defense and rebounding. Having over 30 rebounds between Gasol and Kobe in a defensive struggle of a game like that is huge. Second chance points are killer. If you're giving them up the other team is likely killing you and if you can keep the possesion alive snatching down the board in a game where the defenses are making dudes work they're asses off, that's huge. But whatever let's continue glossing over that aspect of ball for the Carmelos of the world cause they're good at putting the ball in the basket.
As for last year's game 7 (and any game for that matter), it's next man up. The coach and team adjust their game plan to fit the players they have available. You can't just look at it like Perkins would've made up the difference in rebounding. What did the players that got his minutes contribute that Perkins wouldn't have? How were the other players used differently to be successful without him? It's pretty much impossible to measure all of those things, but we do know that the game went down to the wire, so the adjustments they made seemed to work pretty well. To say Perkins would've canceled out the rebounding while assuming everything else would remain the same, is basically suggesting that with Perkins, the Celtics would've blown out the Lakers in game 7. I really, really hope nobody actually believes that.Comment

Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC
It's not like Perk was/is asking them or anybody to break the bank. The word is he wants 4years and 30 million. I still say you hold on to him and try to win it all and wait till you see what the CBA brings.
The part that doesn't make any sense to me at all though is these people saying this is a move for the future and Green will be apart of the future. I guess they missed the part that Green is a free agent at the end of the year as well. Chances are very very high he isn't going to be there next year as well. The Celtics already have 72 million on the books for next year. So if the NBA goes to a hard cap or a dollar for dollar tax for over the cap teams there he isn't coming back. Not to mention Kristic is a free agent at the end of the year as well.
So basically we could be looking at a situation in which they traded their size advantage and starting center for a backup forward that isn't going to be on the squad next season either. If that is the case I would much rather have Perkins than Green for this years playoffs.Comment

Also, Green is a RFA, so I guessing the C's think with the new CBA, teams wont have money to throw out a big offer to Green (similar to how no one gave Big Baby an offer 2 years ago, and the C's were able to resign him cheap). But then again, Big Baby is a UFA....so we'll see what Danny's plan is after the seasonComment

Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC
Looking at it from a Celtics Standpoint, I think the trade will work out. Losing Perkins will hurt on defense, especially against Dwight Howard, but getting Jeff Green really helps against the great small forwards the Celtics make face. Lebron, Carmelo, Luol Deng, amaong others are all good. What would happen if Pierce gets in foul trouble. At least now, you got someone who can score off the bench. It really is a risk by Ainge but I see why he did it.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

I hope somehow the Celtics and Magic meet up in the 2nd round and they have to go up against Dwight.
We'll see how little Perks' impact is when Dwight is going ballistic on their frontline.Comment

Dude wasn't even healthy. People can't judge the man's impact after 5 games.

Point is, yes... they will now be weaker against Dwight Howard. No, that doesn't mean they are weak against the Magic. Just bc we saw how Doc decided to go against the Magic last year and it worked with Perkins playing a big role, doesn't mean they can't find another way to beat them without him. Most teams don't have someone that can stop Howard one on one but the Magic are far from the best team in the NBA. Perkins is not Bill Russell.Comment

Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC
^^ Yea I just received a text about that. ^^
I wonder what the numbers are. This must of been another Carmelo situation (not exactly). But in that he wanted to sign a new deal before the CBA ran out.
Still kind of surprised the Thunder would trade for him so badly when he was hurt. He is young. So he has more time to add a few more things to his game. You forget sometimes with his old face that he is only 24 years old.Last edited by jeebs9; 03-01-2011, 10:25 AM.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories
