Edit: when you don't rebound..that's a clear sign of no defense.

Actually, not rebounding is a clear sign of no rebounding. I've gone through this plenty of times re: my own team.

As for "not liking defense" on these forums, King....well...again, you need your stars to produce. A 10 point lead was blown, yes, but that happens. You need your two stars to stand up and score. If they are two bad defenders like Carmelo and Amare are, and they're not scoring either, then they're truly worthless and you're gonna lose the lead no matter what happens.

Well I meant last night that rebounding. As in hustle... I just watch the game again. They are at least 3-4 50/50 balls just hanging out on the floor. That start up fast breaks for the Celtics.

^^ Exactly ^^ Boston played defense. Got the rebound and leaked out for easy layups/shots. I mean looks at the highlight reel on NBA.com. All the baskets they scored in that reel were in transition off of defensive rebounds. And thats not to mention all the weak layups they give up at the basket. I know people are all over the stars not scoring in the 4th Quarter. Here is the best stat... The Celtics scored 44 points in the paint to the Knicks 28. Your not going to win that way in the playoffs.

Here are two more huge stats to put next to the one above.
Boston had 18 fastbreak points to the Knicks 8
Knicks had 13 turnovers for 21 points and the Boston had 9 TO for 10 points.

Last night was as clear as it can be for showing the difference between Vinny and Thibs.

One year ago Vinny loses a game at home while giving up a 35 point lead to the Kings.

Last night Thibs gets a 30 point lead against the Kings but ends up winning by 30.

Last night was as clear as it can be for showing the difference between Vinny and Thibs.

One year ago Vinny loses a game at home while giving up a 35 point lead to the Kings.

Last night Thibs gets a 30 point lead against the Kings but ends up winning by 30.

Vinny knew how to lose with style though, I'll give him that. It was an art form with him.

There are nights for every team in the league where your shots just aren't going to fall, that's where you need to be able to rely on your defense to carry you through.

But that's not what happened. They didn't just go cold, they stopped moving the ball, stopped trying to get inside, and stopped getting their best players touches. Hard to defend when Billups just puts his head down, drives, and throws the ball right to Ray Allen, leading to an easy score. They gave up a bunch of fast breaks towards the end because they were just jacking up 3's.

And the Knicks are built around Melo and Amare. They are never going to be a dominant defensive team, nor do they need to be. No matter what moves they make in the future, who they bring in as coach, it's always going to be an offensive team. Holding an elite team to 96 should be enough to win, and in most cases is, as the Knicks are 18-4 when they hold a team under 100.

Yea like I said before... I give the game another look this morning. And the Knicks did get the ball to Amare and Melo. Melo had 4 shots during the later moments of that game. He went to the line 2 times (2 questionable superstar calls). Your talking about one play when Billups drove the lane looking for a foul..lost control of the ball. And they were off running the other way.

Key thing to look at. Is how when the Knicks missed their shots. How quickly the Celtics scored the other way. Even if they were missing a bunch of shots. They still should of been running back on defense and taking away all of these dunks and layups.

edit: You'll even notice when the Celtics cut the lead down to 3-4 points. And Knicks pushed it back to 10. But give up the lead again. Because they simply could not stop the Celtics from scoring the other way. They scored 33 points in that fourth.
