All Time Starting 5 - Foreign Players Only

Got this idea from the all time starting 5 thread, thought it could be a cool variation, especially if you've been watching the game for multiple generations.

PG - Steve Nash
SG - Manu Ginobli
SF - Detlef Schrempf
PF - Dirk Nowitzki
C - Hakeem Olajuwon

Nash is a little iffy for me since he went to Santa Clara, I was really looking for players who hadn't played in the US until they entered the NBA so I was thinking about using Tony Parker there instead. I also wanted player's who truly were foreign which is why I took Schrempf over Dominique at the 3 since Nique's parent's were American's stationed overseas and he went to high school here.

Yeah that's an interesting wrinkle. Based on NBA careers its different....but overall, there's a difference.

RIP Drazen Petrovic....it was 18 years just a few days ago that he passed away.

Although Olajuwon was born in Nigeria, he did become an American citizen and actually played for Team USA in 1996. So would he still be considered a 'foreign player' even though he's an American citizen?

I think "foreign player" should be those who never played college ball in America. That would remove Nash and Hakeem off the bat.

Its more "foreign" to have come straight from euro ball etc to the NBA, than to have been acclimated to American basketball via collegiate level athletics.

I think one player we can make an exception for though is Ron Artest, because he is from another planet.

Was thinking the same thing about Nash and Dream... if you include them then Duncan needs to hit some of those lists too.

And Drazen would be on any list I'd put together here... but there are lots of worthy names.

Kukoc maybe, Stojakovic....Kirilenko in his heyday? Don't know if it's all-time based talent or performance or what.

I would put Detlef in there for sure, but he played at U-Dub...

I suppose you could put Dirk at SF and Gasol at PF

Dirk started out as small forward so that fine. But I wouldn't put any college players in this section.
