Re: Should comparisons to Jordan exist???

Tyrant.....he's bad for the NBA for just this reason. He set the bar so high, that the fans, the media, the LEAGUE is looking for someone---ANYONE---to be able to be that sort of phenom again. Not only like the individual athlete, but like the unstoppable team overall. This is why you have all these stupid comparisons. They're starved for it. They're willing to manufacture storylines, this and that just to come close to measuring up to the intrigue and interest that occurred during the Jordan years.

Obviously, this is a futile attempt. It's not fair for the athletes now to be held in such regard, and frankly it's ridiculous to put those athletes in such regard. He was one of a kind. Simple as that.

Jordan's impact was great, indescribable obviously....but I also feel like it has made the general NBA fan dumber. Why you ask? Because of these comparisons, because of that hunger. Because they're so concerned with the flash and the ooh's and ahh's, that any substantive and real analysis of what truly may go on in an NBA game or seasn is simply ignored. Instead, it's all about the dunks, the marketing, and the hype.

Jordan also cemented the league as a superstar-driven league. Obviously there were great superstars before, and after. Obviously there were great teams before, and after. BUT Jordan's existence cemented the fact that there was no way in hell ever again that like, say, Landry Fields would EVER get the same referee/disciplinary/whatever treatment as a guy like Jordan or Kobe or whoever. Took away from the game, went to the individual.

Can't say I blame the NBA or Stern or any of these guys for what happened. Obviously it "had to be done". Obviously you're going to milk the cow(s). And obviously Jordan's positive impact so far outweighed any shred of negative impact he may have had, I'm just saying that it could definitely be argued that Jordan caused quite a decent bit of harm to the league since his departure.

Who knows if this post even made sense. It's 5:15am, lol.

If Jordan Didn't Retire, He Would Of Won 8 Championships.

I see what your saying with setting the bar high, but to me that is the medias fault. To me Jordan proves that hard work ethics , dedication, strong focus, and team commitment pays off. This is what I get with Jordan, and something I can show kids how hard work pays off.

So much can be done with what Jordan accomplished.

With Jordan I see a man that took on every challenge ever thrown his way, and he never ran from it.

Again I see what your saying , but I do not agree with it. It is not his fault on how the media goes about things. The fans to me show better intelligence than the media.

Thank you for your time on replaying to my question.

        Take care homie

Re: Should comparisons to Jordan exist???

MJ's approach to basketball and what he did wasnt bad for the game obviously.

As a matter of fact even when he was young, as kids, we all wanted to go on the court and throw dimes like Magic

What the media doesnt hype up is things like how he wont DPOY

How he averaged 8 assists for a season as a guard or how he averaged like
          10 assists in the finals

MJ went beyond on court stats, and ended up turning into his own brand

When guys like Vince, Grant Hill, Kobe, and all of these other comparisons.. you will realize they didnt have the impact on the game nowhere near what he did. Its just not even fair

The issue here is, they never let the game naturally evolve into whatever it was supposed to be. They started drafting guys on potential and started making up words like wingspan (draft day) as a basis for choosing a player.

You had an influx of kids coming in the league, guys skipping college, and just overall immature entering the game.

AI came in with cornrows and it spread like wildfire. Then came the illegal crossovers travelling while doing it and so on. Its funny because they used to whistle Skip to my Lou up for it, but they let Iverson do it all day.

All the comparisons are nill though IMO. Its a shame because even in MJs day, there were some great guys who had their own name, like Mitch Richmond, who would be a top SG in todays game easily. They didnt do all of that comparison mess back then, just talked about the competition

There is a lot of hollywood, manufactured, fake rivalry, pompus commentating and overall a less exciting product now because the game has turned from the game to entertainment.

The comparison should not exist in this generation. However, it's definitely possible in the future. Someone may come and take over MJ's throne one day, who know.

Great post hear. Especially with how the NBA turned the game from a all out slug fest of fierce competitors, to a form of offensive scoring entertainment.

I have to admit they let defense come to life in this years playoffs. It was great to see.

Now they have to get out this BS acting these players do to get foul calls. Like don't call a foul unless you actually see it.

I do want to add one thing in here because I agree with pretty much all of it. The reason Jordan received so many calls was just as much because he needed to be physically protected as it was because his stardom needed to be protected. The 90s were so much more physical than today and Jordan took a beating because of it. What's a flagrant today was a good, hard foul then.

                  Just wanted to add that.
