and i think we'd all pretty much agree that 27, 5 and 5 on a likely 45% shooting clip is a more accurate representation.

15th Hunter your responses are fairly weak man. 4 points? If KB winds up 4 points short of of the career points record are you gonna say that he was nowhere close to it? The rebounding, assist and shooting percentages are right there. Also, what does "the real Kobe Bryant" even mean? He didnt take some magic pills and become this amazing player. He wasnt NBA ready at the star, bottom line, but he worked his butt of and became incredible. Careers dont exist in a vacuum. You cant just pick and choose what you like and dismiss what you dont. Why dont we pretend the '99 lock didnt happen and Shawn Kemp didnt coke out and eat himself out of the League? Sure would make his career look better right?

i'm going to end this here, as it is detracting from the conversation. if you wish to continue, private message me or add me as a friend and we can talk outside of this thread.

interesting wrinkle to this discussion: if #8 existed totally separately from #24, who would we hold as a better player?

4 more total points is MUCH different than averaging 4 more points a game. Four more points a game is most definitely significant.

And you say careers don't exist in a vacuum but your argument here is Kobe's career numbers vs MJ's very mediocre last year of his career? The point you're trying to make is that Kobe's career numbers aren't that great, or somehow MJ's numbers that year were so good they devalue Kobe's career? Even if the numbers were identical, that argument is pretty weak.

              A.21 ppg 6rpg 5 apg 43% shooting
              B.25 ppg 5rgp 5 apg 45% shooting

I don't think anyone can make a serious argument that the A stat-line is nowhere near the B stat-line. This is all.

The answer to your last few questions is no on all points.

It's not "pretty damn near" unless you're ignoring the points, either... but most importantly, comparing a career average to stats from someone's last year in the league (which many think he shouldn't have even played to begin with) doesn't make much sense. You say "no on all points" but I'm really trying to figure out the point of making the comparison... I missed it somewhere in the back and forth.

He didn't have that big of a surgery. People are making a little too much of a big deal about it. They say you can have the surgery (he had) and start playing tomorrow.
