Re: What do you think of Al Michaels(MNF) covering basketball?
Al Michaels would bring an air of class to the proceedings a la Costas but I don't know if he has enough of a basketball background to make it work. Altho you could've said the same thing about him in the early 80s when he started doing baseball and I remember him to be fairly good at that.
I guess we'll have to see how it goes.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What do you think of Al Michaels(MNF) covering basketball?
This reminds me. I think NBA network broadcasts really need a guy like Madden who is a former coach that has a huge wealth of knowledge to bring so much to the booth. Hubie Brown is the closest Ive seen but he's a bit busy right now, obviously.
As for Al Michaels, well, ABC is trying to establish its niche with a staple broadcasting team, but he doesnt fit into what I would consider to be a dynamic duo. I think basketball needs a play-by-play guy who has a huge enthusiasm and energy for the sport but doesnt sound like a salesman, like Kevin Harlan (the salesman part was to rule out Pat Croce). I dont think Michaels will fit. He may have done fine with baseball and football, but basketball is much quicker-paced than those two sports.
In conclusion, if I were ABC, I'd go for energy on play-by-play and great wealth of knowledge for color. But then again, I'm no exec.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:
