Person in the room assures me that no agreement has been reached. They're about to hit the five-hour mark here in New York.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dave Checketts is right. Just a little premature, bc there's no deal yet.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
random post
I've already explained that a 50/50 BRI split would put the cap this season in the high 50s and the lux tax in the low 70s. Not much of a change at all.
What you fail to understand - and many here - is that the increase in revenue doesn't come from all 30 teams equally.
What most small market teams will see is: their revenue is stagnant, the BRI keeps exploding, the cap keeps growing up, even if they have the chance of having a contender due to good drafting they won't be able to go into tax territory and it'll be tougher to keep star players because salary will be less important relatively to endorsements and quality of life in big markets.
That's why this won't solve nothing for small-market teams and, by making serious revenue sharing an impossibility, as it'll make things okay for a few middle-class teams, it creates an alliance that screws them. That's why small markets owner can't like this deal.
As for why the super luxury tax is worse for small market teams than the current one, read this post, as it's perfectly explained there:

Reminder: Even if Checketts' radio interview is accurate and sides have reached accord in NYC, owners & players must VOTE before it's a DEAL

To clarify, my source is involved in the negotiations and, thus, will be most cautious about jumping the gun even if it's heading that wayComment
