Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion

Meh....you'll all be back next year right after the first official schedule gets released. I cant see how people want to give up on bball after this. Not the first time this has happened, wont be the last. Plenty of other good sports to get into in the meantime. My hope to come out of this is that alot of players who "claim" to be starving for a check come out hungrier next year. Should make for some good bball games.

Maybe after all this is said and done, we will see the death of the mega-headed superstar who plays hard one year for a check or the cancer-ridden players who stop playing cause they are already getting paid. Hopefully, a new CBA will make players more hungry. At least thats my optomisitic outview.

I'm not so sure every single hardcore fan will be back.

      I'm happy I've become a hockey fan.
I've been a huge NBA fan since I started going to games at the Palace with my dad in the late 80s. Pistons/Bulls was something I couldn't even blink while watching, I'm not even sure if I breathed during game action lol.

However, I don't feel "hurt" by this. I feel more like "OK, so no NBA this year? Ugh, fine, let me know when they start back up". It sucks, and I'll miss it, but I'm not heartbroken. Hell if I have to, I'll just create my own NBA season on 2K and watch CPU vs CPU on Tues/Thurs

Exactly. I'll just watch more college ball and UFC.

I'm a realist. The average person that goes to college ends up with a boatload of student loans when they land their first job. I'm not discrediting education at all (I'm better off with a degree than without one), but one mid-level contract ($5-6MM/year) would be way more than the average Joe would make in a lifetime. If you gave me the option of going pro or staying in school, I'm going after the loot. Simple as that. My mind set would be "**** higher education" at that point.

The NBA's argument is a legal one -- union can't use decertification or disclaimer as a bargaining strategy, under labor law

And if you wanted your degree that badly, you can always take classes in the off-season.

I don't doubt it, but those numbers seem to be high.

Well, I'm personally glad that I'm not upset at all. Guess I have more of a life than I thought. Lol.

Not high at all. Every NBA team at least has a minor league hockey team playing in its building. A little over half have NHL teams. A few have a college basketball team. Some have both like the Verizon Center (Caps and Hoyas)

This move by the players will make things very ugly.

This is going to get personal which is never a good thing.

I wonder how misinformed the players are on the info for them to turn it out down or we are misinformed and the deal is actually bad but its probably the first option.
