Just saw this quote by a reader at ESPN and thought this was pretty funny:
It took Dr J, Magic /Bird, and Michael decades to build what LeBron James destroyed w/ one 'Decision'. We have now 'Witnessed'. -

Games officially cancelled through Dec. 15th. So sick of this. Everytime I say "I'm through", I still find myself scouring this thread for scraps of hope smh.Originally posted by J. Well it doesnt really matter about "games cancelled" anymore because any deal would include a brand new, unrelated schedule.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
Hmm maybe Billy Hunter should not get paid to show solidarity with the players.
"Billy Hunter sold the players on a plan that keeps him relevant and keeps him on his $2.5 million salary to be in charge of the court battle.
Keeping Hunter also gives the NBA a better probability of convincing a judge that the players are participating in a phony negotiating tactic."

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
Complaint filed by players tonight: Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Kevin Durant, Leon Powe & Kawhi Leonard are the named plaintiffs.
The case will go by Anthony v. NBA. Filed in CA.
Now it gets a little messy. The NBA will claim they already have an antitrust suit ongoing against the NBAPA in NY and that any matter concerning the lockout should be in NY.Last edited by aholbert32; 11-15-2011, 07:55 PM.Comment

Not asking for a preliminary injunction to lift lockout. They are asking for a summary judgment which takes 60 days for a hearing. That means January is the earliest we may see a season if at all.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
January man... thats pretty useless
Thats the whole thing about time. .. and i recorded Billy on tv last night interviewing with David Aldridge
This guy is going to be on the legal team... way to screw over the players even more...
Remember when Battier asked him if he was going to forego his salary while this was all going on? Battier was shunnedComment

Might be a gross oversimplification, but is this the gist of it?Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
SJ is much harder to win. The NFLPA went for the prelim injunction and won at the trial level. That gave them a little bit of leverage in the negotiation. I have no idea why they are going for an SJ.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
Ian Fitzsimons from 103.3 ESPN radio in Dallas reported that it was not a unanimous vote but more like 60/40 and every time one of the players wanted to settle the meeting down and go over the proposal Billy Hunter would sidetrack the effort by telling everyone that the owners were just trying to screw the players. He said the proposal was never fully explained to the players in the meeting. Essentially Hunter did not want the proposal to go to a vote because he was worried it would pass.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
It is tension-filled moments like the one reported by Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday that Hunter is trying to avoid.
According to the story, agent Bill Duffy was reportedly questioning the union's strategy -- or perceived lack thereof -- during an August meeting in Los Angeles when vice president/free agent guard Maurice Evans interrupted and cursed at Duffy while defending Hunter. It's a role Evans has grown accustomed to, as he did a similar deed in late June when free agent forward Shane Battier suggested during a union meeting that Hunter follow the lead of NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith and forgo his salary during the lockout.

I really wish I knew what Hunter was up to because his actions don't seem to be making sense; it is like he is purposefully trying to ensure that no games are played.
For the players, well I am unsure if they are just naive or what, but they seem to have blind faith in the union leadership. We have seen numerous instances where a player says the deal is bad but is unable to explain why. They're being told it is a bad deal and they seem to accept that on trust alone.Comment

It just sounds more and more like very educated men taking advantage of uneducated men.
And not saying uneducated is equivalent to stupid but it is equivalent to ignorance. The players aren't litigators.
