I think Cuban is expressing the thoughts of the owners. I have a very hard time believing that you can find one owner that doesnt care about profit. They all want to make money.

What the writer is failing to realize is the rules didn't change; they just moved into phase two. This lockout became part of a larger plan when Stern and the owners realized the players wouldn't take less than 50%.

Their priority then focused on competitive balance (not suggesting they achieved this) with the idea that once that is attainable or more likely for all 30 franchises, money would be the next step.

    What did this writer expect?

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion

So Stern in his 'State of the League' address thinks that Adam Silver will be his successor as commissioner? Not sure how I feel about that considering that Silver, according to most involved, was more involved in the negotiations than Stern.

Well, it looks like the owners will be coming in with a new commander on the next negotiations. If the players still have Billy Hunter as head of their union in the next round of negotiations, expect another lock out. If they have someone with some common sense, expect a players strike.

Stern's done alot for the league, last few years have tarnished it though. Not sure what to think about Silver.....

Shouldnt be alarming, both players and owners had BRI and profit in mind during negotiations. Like Cuban said, we wont see how the CBA works until year 3, even though we are seeing it at work with the Howard situation.

We have, but we havent seen that many teams use it. I know the Blazers, Magic, and Cavs have used it. Seems like other teams would rather sit on it then use it.

It has worked and it does give teams options. I doubt we see it used again during the season by a team unless needed for a trade.
