Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
They set a goal awhile back to reach 10K Season Ticket holders, they only had 6K last season. Currently they have 9K despite the lockout and are possibly closing in on their goal if there is a season. Seems to have more sponsors and look to be a lot better off financially at the moment, so they can focus on getting an actual Owner now.

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
Well, NBA can't stay as owners forever, so I guess that depends whether there's local money willing to keep the team there. So far, it's looking like a no.
Got a feeling there's other cities that would be better suited for the team too, but that's quite subjective from my point of view. -
Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
They kinda twisted our arms to get those 10K season tickets, but support is growing. And the buzz is once the lockout situation is wrapped up we should get an owner in short order.
I'm really crossing my arms it's a local based/committed owner or ownership group. Cuz I don't want none of that "You got 10,000 season tickets. For the last season! Thanks for everything, |u|z. Also, we're trading Chris Paul to the Clippers."Comment

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
I love the Hornets but I wanna see a system in the NBA that lets every team compete for championships. You aren't gonna get 10K people in a football hungry area to support a team thats gonna finish either in 7th place or worse.Comment

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
Just out of curiosity, where would they go? Seattle? Does St. Louis have an arena? I'm having a hard time thinking of where they would end up if they moved.Boston Red Sox

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
It sounds stupid, but for one way to bring back people, is to look to the past. Fans here loved, loved the Hornets, and still want to get the name back as it actually has meaning here in Charlotte.Comment

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
Yeah I understand. I just didn't know if the city had already moved on or not. On that note, if the current Hornets moved to Seattle and became the Sonics, the city still has the rights to the logos and uniforms and stuff like that, correct? If that's the case, I would die happy if this happened. I know it's speculation, but that would be amazing.Boston Red Sox

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
I'm pretty sure Seattle still has all the historic stuff. I could have sworn that I read somewhere Seattle kept the uniform and logo trademarks, along with team records, championships, etc. So in a way, the Thunder are a brand new team, so to speak. Yeah it's the players, but everything Sonic stayed in Seattle. Sort of like Cleveland did with the Browns. When the Browns moved to Baltimore, Cleveland retained all the team history, and when the Browns were restarted a few years later, the new team became associated with the championships in the 50s and 60s, the Hall of Famers, etc.Boston Red Sox

In Charlotte, the owner wanted a new arena, the city wouldn't give him one since the Coliseum wasn't even 15 years old at the time. He became a big baby, and ran with tail between his legs.Comment

Re: Future of the Hornets in New Orleans
And in Seattle, the state government refused to provide funding to update KeyArena, so the team was sold to a group headed by an OKC businessman. The group was not supposed to move the team to Oklahoma, however, which is why Seattle residents are so sore over the move. The group ended up paying 45 mil to the city, and they have to pay 30 million more if Seattle doesn't have a team by 2013.Boston Red Sox
