Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
In the current lockout where players like d.will and wilson chandler are playing overseas, it just makes me wonder... If Canada had a professional basketball league similar to football and the CFL, how many players would actually consider coming here to play since it's closer to home for the American players.Tags: None -

Players in the NBA don't even wanna play in Toronto, you think they're going to willingly play for and live in Saskatchewan?As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!" -
Re: Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
There is so much talent in the European league which I don't think a Canadian league would be able to match. For players who go overseas it's not just because the money is good but also cause the competition is really good.
If Canada had a league, most of the talent would have been scouted and signed with the NBA which wouldn't have made that league very competitive.
My point is, good players want to play good basketball, and competitive basketball, not just play to play.What we know so far about NBA 2K14 - FAQ/QA:

Re: Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
what really matters is whether there is a market for it. if there is, i'm sure they would already have a league. there are plenty of guys around the world that play basketball that would love to get paid to play basketball but aren't quite good enough to make it in the higher leagues. i don't think there is a marketComment

Re: Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
I am all for a Candian League, but it will need to have crazy rules like the CFL has. For starters:
1. 12 Second Shot Clock.
2. Fouls result in 5-4 man advantage instead of foul shouts.
3. Naturally there will be a 4 point shot line.
4. Players can sub on the fly.Comment

Actually a league was just founded this year. The planning was done well before the lockout became a reality. However, like another Canadian league it's a low budget semi-pro type of league though Sam Mitchell helped the founder and current commissioner of the league set it up. One of the coaches in the league is former NBA'er Michael Ray Richardson.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
It's hard for me to find someone who cares about basketball here. When you come to OS and see some Canadian guys posting here, it seems like Canada is into basketball just like the US. Then you go to work, meet friends and start talking about basketball, just to have the subject changed after 1 minute. Maybe I just keep meeting the wrong people...
Add to that that I haven't been watching much NBA basketball the past few years like I used to (it just doesn't do it for me anymore)...and I'm in the middle of a process to rank American/Canadian football as my number 1 sport. By next season it'll be my favorite sport.
It's not too bad. This way I don't need to watch 5000 Raptors games on TV every season (that's what they air here most of the time).
CFL = awesomeness
NFL = awesomeness + sparks
I wish football season was longer, I wish they played 30 games a season.
EDIT:
Wait a minute! We're talking about basketball here. It took me 45 minutes to realize I was going off topic. If I had a dollar for every time it happened...

Re: Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
Like SPTO said there already is a Canadian League called NBLoC.
The only player I recognize in the league is Rodney Buford. I'm not even sure how the league is operating considering there's no TV/Radio contract, no press at all from any major newspapers, sports channels, blogs, etc.... The website also looks like it was created with a $500 budget.Comment

Re: Why Isn't There A Canadian Basketball League?
oshawa has a team, i live in courtice which is right next to it and could go to a game if i wanted. i think the home opener had 1200 people show up for it. they play in the ohl arena (oshawa generals) and the games are streamed live online through their website. the games show up on the local tv station but i don't think they are live. dwight howards brother plays for the oshawa team and most of the other players are from usa and had been playing oversea's. mark strickland is their coach, who played in the nba.
overall the bball is decent, most of the players seem to be guys who weren't getting burn overseas. i think you have to start somewhere, i wish they would have just become apart of the d league but whatever.XBOX LIVE: ST6 RawkerComment

Basketball has no chance to be big in Canada until they start playing it on ice. I think that any sport you can come up with, as long as it's played on ice - you have a winner.My Specs:
