Brandon Roy is lightning in a bottle. Unfortunately, that bottle has been severely cracked and no longer seems reliable. If Brandon Roy is amnestied by Portland, no one will be surprised. It's already been said that through the channels Portland wanted Roy to retire. The 2007 Rookie of the Year? You mean Brandon Roy, the same guy who made love to the basketball in that fourth quarter against the Mavs? Eighteen Points, Brandon Roy?
But it wouldn't be surprising.
Call me crazy, but I'll take Roy any day of the week. Yeah, he has some problems with the wheels. Meniscus tears and arthroscopic surgery aside, Brandon Roy can play. It's sad that someone who is only a few years removed from being not only being the best rookie out on the court, but evolving into one of the games most complete shooting guards, has to consider what he's going to do to revive his career. Looking at the field, Roy was on course to be the best Shooting Guard once Kobe walks away (or is carried off the court as he's said) and Wade diminishes. Could that have all gone away so quickly? Hopefully, some time away from the court has helped him gather his confidence again. Hopefully, he's sat back and realized he still has tremendous talent, and in the right environment, under the right training guidance, he can still be a great player.
Considering Paul Allen, and everything their front office has indicated over the last year or so, cutting ties with Brandon Roy for financial reasons seems inevitable. But he's an amazing talent and can light up the Rose Garden any given night. The city loves what he brings to the city, and with Lamarcus Aldridge stepping into the primary scoring role, perhaps it can alleviate the pressure of being -that- guy in Portland. Time will tell, where do you think Roy goes? Does he have something to offer teams that are contending? Could he be the final piece to put a middling team over the top?
My Prediction:
Brandon Roy – Chicago Bulls
