Ok, explain to me WHY on earth he would do that???

    Financially that makes NO sense.

Brand wise that makes actually LESS than no sense.

So, he should suck it up and play for a team with aging stars with no real intent on staying somewhere with no long term security.....with one of the two very real options..

    A. getting hurt due to lack of conditioning from a shortened NBA season...and missing out of possibly the biggest payday of his career.(see NFL and the myriad of ACL injuries they had this year)

    B. having a great year with a squad of geriatric nba players (sorry celtic fans) and then turning around and telling Boston to go *#&@ themselves and eventually signing where he really wants to be??? NOBODY WANTS TO BE LEBRON, AGAIN...
    VOL T VOL.....................
    Anymore questions?

Re: Stern HAS to be fired...

simply put the owners want the nba to be the nfl... they want the ability to cut players under contract who arent performing to their pay scale, they want no guaranteed contracts, they want to dictate where a player signs with labels such as "franchise player".. so in short they want total control over a players career... if they had there way then the curt flood case would be reversed an the players would go back to being property of the team just like the merchandise they sell... i didnt like the trade cause i want cp3 to be a knick (im biased, so shoot me lol) but im glad that the owners whined an complained cause it shined a light on how petty they really are an that fact got lost during the lockout when the media an general public talked about the players greed... these guys need to face the fact that the league is profitable because these guys draw major interest in major markets and that means revenue for everyone... sterns use of "basketball reasons" is a euphemism for money an thats what this comes down to, and Dan "ima big baby" gilberts letter to the commish proved that

Re: Stern HAS to be fired...

Personally I'm most upset with ESPN and the general sports media trying to convince their viewers that the Hornet's were getting the best out of the deal in an attempt to sway the opinion of the general populous against Stern. I also don't like that Gilbert is being scapegoated, if anyone thinks he's the only owner who complained you're delusional, I don't care what the NBA tells you. There's plenty of reasons to dislike Stern, even over this transgression, but ESPN and others are being blatantly disingenuous in their reporting.

ESPN likes to act like all that's happening is players are switching teams and Gilbert's whining because owner's want more control over players, they make no mention of the luxury tax money that small market teams will lose out on, the salary the Lakers save, the money the Hornets take on (that someone aptly pointed out does not make them attractive to potential buyers) the draft picks the Lakers don't give up or any other abstract detail of the trade.

All that being said, oh well for you guys. The three teams involved agreed on the trade and that should be the end of it, if they're going to act like this they should just drop the guy who's in NO because this demonstrates that he's nothing, not even a puppet.

Anyway, in the end I totally disagree with Stern and the League for the way this went down, if they were going to veto it it should've been done long before it wound up going down.

However, there's always two sides to every story and ESPN not reporting the other side of this one because of the agenda they have further goes to show how far from sports "journalism" their business model is.

Not sure what you mean? I don't like it but the players aren't doing anything that's not allowed by the rules, even after the new CBA.

Only way to stop it is eliminating true free agency or forcing every player into free agency and eliminating extensions.

Otherwise kudos to the player for giving their franchise a chance to redeem value on the talent they're about to lose.

Probably should have explored "franchise tag" possibilities

Yea, I don't think anyone wants to go back to the reserve system.

I hate franchise tags, I'd much rather just have a hard cap in the 70s.

Circumstances have made the NBA owners of the Hornets. They wouldn't be able to veto this trade if they weren't in that situation. When you add to that the fact that they just negotiated a CBA that was supposed to address things like this but failed to close the hole (the wording actually makes it seem like they set it up for D12 and CP3 to get out of their situations for this year and then next year no one could do it) makes it even worse that they would step in.

How do you figure? You could state that you believe players abuse their power with the way Melo made it clear the Nuggets should take what they can get or he's walking, and what it appears Paul's doing. In the situation the players have power, and if they are using it in a way you think takes advantage of the rules or the team then that would be abusing it.

My issue is that the rules/CBA/whatever are set up in a way that encourages that, and considering a new CBA was just agreed to, I don't fault the players... doesn't mean that isn't an example of abusing power. At the same time, the owners/Stern nixing a trade bc they happen to be owners of a team in a position to make a move that other owners don't like is also an abuse of power. Again, you may feel the owners are right to do it but that doesn't make it any less of an abuse of power.

Basically, we can disagree with where to point the finger, but any side taking advantage of loop holes in the way they do is an abuse of power. I personally have a bigger problem with Stern's abuse than the players.

I can't believe the league (AKA stern) nixed the clippers offer...what more could he have wanted??? legit young player (gordon) check, draft pick(minny's first which could be a top 5) check, an expiring contract (kaman) check, and a top 10 pick from the 2010 draft (aminu) check! Stern said he wanted youth, and the ability to build a team for the future. He needs to make up his mind with what he wants...jesus. I can't wait until CP3 just walks and stern looks like a complete buffoon.
