Because the image is a "distraction".

That's not a good reason. You can't tell a kid how cool he can have his hair look. Are they going to tell the pretty girl in class that she's too pretty and make her rough herself up? Because I'll bet that more guys in class are distracted by the girls than they would ever be by Matt Bonner's face.

    EDIT: This gets better.

On the school's website, they list a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.

"The secret in education lies in respecting the student."

Awesome. Also, the school's ratings, class sizes, and test scores apparently suck. Oh well, better fix it by suspending creativity!

There was no permission that was given if the parent thought that then it was a miscommunication,
Well from this it could probably have been against school rules or dress code to begin with and the kid did it anyways, knowing the consequences of his actions. For the most part no one's ever as bad as they're made out to be.

What kind of public school has rules limiting art shaved into a head or dying hair? Unless it truly is distracting, it's actually forbidden by Supreme Court ruling. Freedom of expression.

Are we really going to sit here and say that kids can't focus on a test because Matt Bonner's image is shaved into the back of a kid's head?

They should be banning these skinny jeans (women's pants) and cheap dress styles nowadays instead of haircuts

What about the kid who comes with a spiked mohawk

We still don't know the whole story, and everything always looks one sided when it's presented as being one sided, as it was in the article. Agree to disagree.

That Diana Taurasi BIG commercial is getting on my nerves.

Ordinarily I'm all about the agree to disagree (lol), but this is hardly a matter of opinion. The only way the school could be justified is if the haircut is determined to be too distracting. If I could scroll past it during my leisure time, do you really think kids can't ignore it during a test?

Nice edit, too. When did I say school uniforms were forbidden? Go ahead and quote that right now.

I'm sure you could stroll by a lot of things without noticing them, that does not mean it isn't distracting to other people. I could EASILY see how his haircut could be a distraction. These are middle school students in San Antonio! You don't think that just by this haircut it could spark up conversation about the Spurs and derail an entire class? Again, middle school students would have a heyday with this haircut to just talk about the Spurs all class.

Also about the Supreme Court, their rulings have never stated anything about a school's rights regulating hair. The famous one, Tinker v. Des Moines, only talks about clothing messages, as in black armbands protesting the Vietnam War.

EDIT: The ruling on his suspension would be dependent on the decision in the lower courts. Sorry about the edit, I'm bad about pointing that out...

EDIT: And nearly all public schools have codes regulating hair. And I put in the school uniforms thing since you said they can't ban things that aren't distracting.

So could a Spurs T-shirt. It's on the teacher to control the class. The principal isn't going to walk around suspending people wearing potential conversational topics.

My school certainly never had hair-length or style restrictions. I've heard of policies necessitating above-the-ear, off-the-collar hair, but even those are ridiculous because they don't apply to girls.

Even if it is legal by the courts (considered distracting), are we really going to sit here and say that we should blame the cool haircut in the class for ******* failing in the back? Personally, I like to blame the person who can't keep his/her eyes off a damn haircut, but to each his own.

(This truly is the NBA Off Topic thread, lol)

A Spurs T-Shirt would also be against the schools dress code FWIW as they impose a school uniform.

Well, because I don't want to get in trouble, I'll just say that anything after this comes down to politics and the culture of the region.

Doesn't make the suspension right, though.

Look at the cut again and imagine it as Chuck Norris.

No kid would be suspended for having Chuck Norris shaved into his head

im sorry but that is so ****ing stupid to suspend a kid for a haircut like that.

unless he has an image that is racist or has to do with religion or a really disturbing lmage like a gun, a girls tits or vagina in his hair, then he or anyone should be ok.

people focus on the dumbest things. let suspensions happen for something thats really worth it.

Spotted this article about how TD 'hates' Kevin Garnett

In fact, Duncan hates Kevin Garnett. Hates him the way liberals hate Sean Hannity. This information comes from very reliable sources, who talk about how KG has made a career of trying to punk Duncan, baiting him and slapping him and whispering really weird smack into his ear. They talk about how funny this is, because the worst thing you can do as an opponent is piss off Duncan. Then, as Malik Rose says, “he f—— destroys you.” Duncan’s lifetime numbers versus Garnett’s teams, by the way: 19.4 points per game, 11.6 boards and a 44–17 record, including the postseason.

Duncan is diplomatic about the topic. Asked if perhaps all those years battling Garnett have softened his feelings for the man, led to a Magic-Larry type of kinship, Duncan leans back on the couch in his hotel room and grins. There is a pause. A longer pause. Finally he says, “Define kinship.”

Those old days of KG vs Duncan were funny, Duncan is the only halfway decent player I can remember KG trying to bully. He obviously typically went after the scrubs instead like a true pansy.
