Interesting to read, but I don't understand why anyone still watches NBA basketball if its best years are behind it. The constant claim that Jordan will never be matched seems to take away any reason for a player to push himself.

The removal of hand checking was done to increase scoring. In fact, basic defense has slowly been legislated out of the game. Teams now are allowed to double team and zone which inevitably leads to blocks and breakaway layups.

You also can't forget that todays players are allowed to put their hands on the underside of the ball, which was always whistled as palming back in the day. Ball handlers are allowed to pull up their dribble, take one long step, then two short bunny-hops. It is indeed a different game now, and not for the better.
