    all-time professional basketball draft.

    the rules:
    12 teams.
    12 players per team.
snake-style draft (person who picks last in first round picks first in the second round).
playing in today's basketball environment (three point line, lack of hand-checking, general lack of intense physicality, etc.)

the premise is simple, as well. if you were going about creating a basketball team with every player that has played in the nba to date, how would you go about assembling it?

please consider size, skill, playing style, etc. you could opt to simply choose the best talent you find, or figure out how each part meshes with the rest. it's up to you.

you are not drafting a player's career, per se, moreso the player themself. that is to say, you are getting that person, including the good and the bad. whether he's injury-prone, tempermental, shot-happy, or if he's a leader, creates harmony, fosters competitive fire, these all factor in.

Are you going to plug the teams into whatifsports.com and see what happens?

        I'm digging this idea, man.

I still can't believe that no one took Bob Lanier.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

            Re: all-time professional basketball draft.

are we supposed to mention who we think was the best pick of the draft and the worst pick of the draft?

and rank the teams and such...

oh, and as for my rotation, I looked at it from this stand point

            Starting 5

C - Moses Malone/Nate Thurmond (depends on the opposing center)
            PF - Nate Thurmond/Moses Malone
            SF - Kevin Durant
            SG - Dwyane Wade
            PG - Chris Paul
            6th Man - Bob Dandridge
            7 - Chris Webber
            8 - Deron Williams
            9 - Bill Laimbeer
            10 - Paul Westphal
            11 - Manute Bol
            12 - Dell Curry

I like that idea, but they go solely on stats. they have no way of factoring in how selfish guys like Kobe, McAdoo, Wilt etc. are. Or how injury prone guys like Penny & Grant Hill are. Or the drug problems of David Thompson. Or how guys like C-Webb, Garnett, Karl Malone, & Barkley don't come up big in the clutch.

                    Re: all-time professional basketball draft.

The Big O was really a mid-second round pick?

I think 55's team stands out by a long shot. Amazing defense 1-5, unselfish and well-rounded players (outside of Deke who'll just do his thing). I guess there's no great long-range shooter but they wouldn't really need one IMO. There's no weakness there.

Doesn't AB always bash the hell out of Wilt? Surprised he took him first.

55 and Illosophy were the top 2 in my opinion.

When somebody asked me to come up with my fantasy 5 before, I had Jordan, Pippen, Garnett and Payton. The amount of things you can do defensively with those 4 is ridiculous.

Alright, I'll be the first to jump start the best pick/worst pick stuff

These teams obviously have alot of firepower but having players with synchronous talents is truly the key.
Which teams do I think would have success? I like what Dice did with his club, he loaded his starting lineup with power players (Oscar, Pierce, McHale) and every one of them can play lock-down defense.
55 fielded an incredibly quick and long starting unit, although they don't have much beef on their bones.
Taur3asi drafted an outstanding, well-rounded team. That is a great starting lineup.

Note: Dave DeBusschere is my starting power forward, not Jerry Lucas.

I will willingly admit that my team is rather oddly balanced, but I think my team is a great mix of ultra motivated talented players and slacking loser players.

Hell, having Bird and Nash will make up for any unmotivated idiots. Including the King himself, Shawn Kemp.
