What makes you say that? We want the Sonics back. If they weren't called the Sonics, there'd be some backlash.
Besides, there's already a group that's pushing for the NHL too. The NHL would be a huge hit here. I think more people want the NHL than NBA , but people are dying for the NBA just the same.Comment

Re: Supersonics coming back?!
I don't think that last part is true at all. I think the NHL could be successful here, but I don't think people want it more than the NBA. Basketball is huge in this region, and everybody I've spoken to since the Seattle Times article has been excited about the prospect of the NBA coming back. What makes you say that? We want the Sonics back. If they weren't called the Sonics, there'd be some backlash.

Re: Supersonics coming back?!
I'd love to see Seattle get a team back, but it seems like everything I see online indicates that Seattle hates the NBA for "stealing" their team and sending it to a "cow town". It seems like everywhere I go where it's discussed someone is talking about torturing Clay Bennett and assassinating Stern for this atrocity.
So, if Seattle did get a team why would fans trust the NBA to make the right choices or show any loyalty at all to the fans?Comment

Re: Supersonics coming back?!
The Hornets won't be moving anywhere imo, the Franchise can work in this city and it seems to be a point of Stern to get an owner is intent on keeping them in NO(which should happen in a few months, and if it's a few names that are being thrown around they won't be moving).Originally posted by Proof21Sacramento is very close to building a new arena..if that happens there is no chance Seattle with get the team. Attending the city hall meetings I have a feeling it will get done. The Kings will be staying in Sacramento for a long time..now if we can just get new owners, Burkle please.
However, I would like to see the Supersonics come back if a team moves to Seattle. The Hornets would be the most logical team.Last edited by Chrisksaint; 02-09-2012, 01:50 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Supersonics coming back?!
Don't put "stealing" in quotes. That is what happened. The owner bought the team to move it to OKC, and never negotiated in good faith with the City of Seattle to keep the team there. His demands and proposals for what kind of arena they needed were over the top.I'd love to see Seattle get a team back, but it seems like everything I see online indicates that Seattle hates the NBA for "stealing" their team and sending it to a "cow town". As far as Seattle fans hating the NBA, I think that's true. I personally still don't trust Stern at all (that's why I could see him screwing over New Orleans or Sacramento, even though neither of those teams deserves that). But fans in Seattle would certainly still support an NBA team even if they don't truly support the league.Comment

Come on, its common place for owners to demand 100% publicly funded $500m state of the art facilities in which the owners keep 100% of the revenue. :what:Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Supersonics coming back?!
Don't forget also trading away a guy who scored 26 ppg the season before, which made it impossible to resign a 22 ppg scorer that offseason. There's no doubt in my mind that if they don't trade Allen, they're competitive, and if they had been able to resign Lewis as well, they're a playoff team that year.
I too hate David Stern. But I could care less about a hockey team. I want a basketball team again. I've been without a true favorite team for a couple years now. I rooted for the Magic because of Rashard and D12, but Lewis is in Washington now, and D12 has been a punk and is on his way out of Orlando. I've been trying to be a Blazers fan, but it's difficult after rooting against them for so long. A team back in Seattle would be great.
Also, imo, with no NBA team, there's no NHL team either, unless they want to play at KeyArena. The city isn't building a fancy new building for hockey. They're willing to do it for basketball, and adding hockey to it just makes sense if you can do it. It's more revenue.Comment

Not to mention the fact that the proposed site wasn't anywhere near downtown Seattle.
Watching the Sonicsgate documentary should be mandatory for all basketball fans.Comment

I agree with you, I was just quoting the apparent majority of Seattleites(?) I see online. Anyway, I hope you guys get a team back soon, and when the Thunder loses all its local support in ten years the league will pack them up and send them to Wichita.Comment

Re: Supersonics coming back?!
It's a shame how uneducated a lot of basketball fans are. Watch Sonicsgate and all of their short films. It explains everything, in detail. Not just about the Sonics, but about the NBA's demands and requirements of keeping a team in your city.
The Sonics were stolen from Seattle. Bennett gave us no chance to keep them in town. Sacramento has been working their asses off to keep the team. They've put in blood, sweat and tears. If they move to Seattle, I'll feel for them, but at the same time I'll be ecstatic for myself.Former OS Editor.

I'm trying to stay grounded on this, but its amazing how different the tone is among the local politicians compared to 2005-2008. Then you hear from people in the know that say the city is shooting forMy biggest worry at this point is the Mariners. Sounds like they don't like the idea of potentially two new professional teams next door (NHL too).“the largest sports and entertainment complex in the united states” and “destination city”Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment
