    Quesiton about Jordans comeback

I watched a special on the bulls today and at one point in the video it quoted michael jordan saying that if phil jackson did not comeback then niether would he. So my question is, when phil jackson took over the lakers why didnt jordan attempt his comeback then as opposed to with the wizards?

With all he'd accomplished, he wasn't interested in coming back and competiing for a title or anything like that, plus he was part owner of the Wiz at the time and missed the game......it was a chance to lead a young upstart Wiz squad...

I think he even donated most of his salary to some 9/11 relief..

I'm pretty sure the biggest reason was because he was an owner of the Wiz.

MJ loved a good challenge. That Wizards club was incredibly flawed with no point guard and no big men. Simply getting them into the playoffs would have been a thrill for MJ.

He would have too, if he hadn't gotten injured. Those games were funny as hell to watch, an old MJ carrying a team to a .500 record with his supporting players being Christian Laettner, Popeye Jones, Tyron Lue and a before his prime Rip Hamilton. Pretty impressive stuff.

and he almost did - both years. Granted, that was during the weakest stretch of Eastern Conference basketball EVER.

But, to answer the OP - he came back with the Wizards, and not the Lakers because 1.) he was GM of the Wizards, and this was really his only chance to prove that the team he had assembled could win. and 2.) the Lakers had a coming-into-his-own Kobe Bryant, and it would have been detrimental to the team to sign MJ. Kobe would have never forgiven LA, and would have likely left LA during that span, out of sheer anger.

I actually had to re-read because I thought the original question was why he didn't come back to the Bulls (and all the other answers are true on why that didn't happen also)... but there's NO way MJ would've come back to the Lakers. We can debate Lebron's decisoin from every angle but one thing is clear, Jordan would not go that route. The Bulls are the Bulls because of MJ. The Lakers are already the Lakers. The Wizards are... well, the Wizards. MJ wouldn't have even taken a front office job with the Lakers (even though he would've never been given one there even if he wanted one).

                Re: Quesiton about Jordans comeback

No way Jordan makes his second comeback with the Lakers. And the main reason is Kobe Bryant. Jordan and Bryant both have 'alpha dog' complexes. Bryant's might be worst than Jordan's. As much as Kobe respected and idolized Jordan, there is no way Kobe would have resisted the opportunity to show up Jordan in practice. Kobe would have went to him hard in practice, probably to a point where he tries to embarrass Jordan. And Jordan would have too much pride for him to be constantly get beat by Kobe. Remember, Jordan was turning 40 with limited movement on defense. He was still a good scorer BUT far from 'Air Jordan'. Kobe at that time was at the peak of his athletic career and was at a point where he discovered that he could score at will. Also at that time, Kobe was a premier defender. Jordan would have had no chance guarding Kobe and would have had a hard time scoring on him as well.

The chemistry of the team wouldn't have allowed Jordan to play for the Lakers at that time. Jordan's pride would have also prevented him from playing for that team was well.

You must take what Jordan said in context. Jordan was referring to coming back to the Bulls the next year. I remember listening to him say that as youngster. Perty sure I heard him say that on AM 1000 out of Chicago while I was living in VA. You can get that station in Georgia on a good night during the winter.

an old mj would have multiple problems on d , but you are mistaken that he would have had trouble scoring on kobe
