Which context are you referring to? You originally mentioned the bulls being 3rd in blocks this year. If you are just referring to this season alone, then Howard isn't a "dominant" shot blocker either.

Edit: Not saying howard overall can't block shots, but the only difference between howard and asik/gibson this year is how many minutes they play.

Yes, it's not always case. But the situation applies when it comes to the Bulls. Before Thibs, the Bulls went from being barley average on defense to being well above average when Thibs showed up.

Howard is a nightmare shot blocker IMO but he does go for the highlight block sometimes and that allows to go under him for the layup.

As far as Gibson, love him! I remember when the Bulls drafted him I was disappointed. I thought, great, a PF that is the same age as Tyrus Thomas without the athleticism or the experience. Funny thing was even without the NBA experience he was ages above TT IQ wise on the court.

What distinguishes Howard and few others as elite shot blockers is the fear they impose on most offensive players have when they come to the lane. Yes, Howard is having low block numbers in terms of what Howard really can do. And that's because players are very reluctant to take it to the paint and challenge him. Howard, being a 3-time defensive player of the year, has the reputation of deterring guys from driving the lane. I can't quite say the same of Taj and Asik.

Not arguing with you there. if i had to pick best shot blockers in the game, Howard would definitely be 2-3. But I just raised an eyebrow when you brought up bulls stats, sounded like you weren't giving Asik/Gibson their props.

You raise a good point though - the fact that ppl don't fear Asik/Gibson is probably helping their stats. Dwight could be at that point where he's being more wise with his block attempts and realizes that the risk of committing to a shot block often times negates the reward. Add that to fear factor you mentioned

                  Awesome.

One part of me wants to see Rose just rest. The other part wants me to see a full Bulls squad finally play the Heat.

I hope next year ESPN scraps these fools off the show. Barry could stay I suppose.

I love how every time TMac scores the announcer has to say, "lookin like old-time McGrady right there."

                        No, no he doesn't.

I just turned on the game to hear that from the commentators. Had to check the boxscore to make sure I heard correctly. Lol
