With Nash we get the $100m Amare that we want. The ball movement will get much better. Melo will get easier looks. Obviously we lose our defensive guy to put on other good perimeter players but I think we have to take the chance.

My theory is that with Nash we get a much better Amare, a better Melo and a still efficient Chandler. Hopefully a better JR too.

I'm also in the group that feels Lin is a middle of the road starting point guard and that without Nash the team probably won't get past the ECSF.
Win now vs. stupid financial decisions that financially strap the team

That win now isn't guaranteed. Somehow, some way you need a future.

Especially with 3 max players already.

I'm not going to get sucked into this free agent frenzy with teams giving everything up just for one guy. And a guy with a bad back at that.

S&Ting Nash doesn't mean the Knicks can get to the ECFs.

Lin probably will get an offer from Houston. They're saying Novak has 12 teams gunning for him.

I don't know about the rest of y'all but I'd like to have some semblance of a bench.

I guess he didn't give Dallas a chance.

Celtics & free agent G Jason Terry have reached agreement on 3-year deal paying mid-level exception, sources tell Y!
        Latest from Marc Spears

Technically DAL still has chance since officially all FA's can't sign till the 11th.

He really should just skip all of next season and come back 2013-2014 season.

I see what you're saying but that's too much time without basketball. He needs to come back at the end of the season next year and then play under monitored minutes. Playoffs included! It sucks but this is the reality the Bulls face.

The Celtics will use their $5 million midlevel exception to sign Terry. The total value of the contract will be worth more than $15 million. Yahoo! Sports
                Jason Terry - $15M offer
                Landry Fields - $20M offer

^^This is why the Knicks needs to tell Landry to have a nice day.

I hope Toronto fans are pleased with Colangelo on this.

The Bulls won't make the playoffs this year with D-Rose.

                      Per Twitter:

Jason Terry says that, if he joins the Celtics, he wants Ray Allen to return: "That wouldn't hurt,'' Terry said.

They had the best record in the NBA and rose was out for like half the games. I'm pretty sure they'll make the playoffs.

I can see where you're coming from.

The way I look at it though is that Jerome Jordan, Gadzuric and Douglas didn't even play so we're basically trading Shump for Nash. Those other three are replaceable with vet min deals. Novak, JR and Lin are all coming back (unless Novak gets an insane offer) and IMO that's the start of one hell of a bench. We'd need to find a decent defender for real cheap, Barnes maybe?

I know the 'win now' isn't guaranteed but we have a much better chance with Nash IMO.

Regarding the financials of it, I don't think it's a stupid move at all since Melo/Amare/Chandler are all on the books through 2015 anyway. This thing is either going to be a success or a giant mess for the next three years - adding Nash's contract wouldn't make it anymore of a mess since his deal would expire with everyone else's and we'd have a clean slate in '15-'16 and would probably only bring Melo back. Even if we win a title in the next three years we're going to go through a major roster shift anyway after '15. This doesn't impact the long term future since it's such an unknown in three years anyway.

This is probably our last chance to acquire a real difference maker in the Amare/Melo era. I'd roll the dice.

Good. The Nets found a backup center for Lopez. This also allows Mirza (Spelling?) to play his natural position at the 4 off the bench.
