Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
I guarantee we're still resigning Lin. We're not making all these moves to attempt to win a title and then suddenly decide on a PG situation of Kidd & Felton. No way.
It's been known for a bit that we wanted to try to get some small pieces with the Gadzurc/Jeffries assets. Felton is an insurance policy for Prigioni, not Lin. Kidd is going to be playing a lot of time at the 2 especially until Shump gets back. We still needed one more PG to feel comfortable.
I think Lin is an average PG like everyone else with a brain but he's still going to be better than Felton - who honestly sucks. He's not a catch-n-shoot guy so he's going to fit in our offense when Melo is on the floor. His PnR abilities are below average and even in Pringles' system I did not like his decision making and shot selection. But he's going to be our third, possibly fourth PG and he will bring far more to the table than Dan Gadzuric did and Kurt & Jeffries are basically a wash at this point. I like the move for depth, but again there's no way we're not matching Lin.
The Knicks have plenty of veterans at this point. Including a hall of fame pg. I don't think Felton playing in the first round twice is a factor. With the amount of veterans we have, I'm going with potential over a guy like Felton.
I don't think he's put himself ahead of the team. Most players would sit out the select team if they aren't under contract. He's not doing anything different than any other player would, just most players don't get the opportunity to make this much money this early in their career.
If we were a team concerned with preserving cap space, I agree, too much money, he hasn't proved himself. We are a team that can afford to overpay though. If it works out, we may have found our point guard for the next 5+ years. If not, Dolan wasted money. Not the first time, and for once, didn't kill the cap.Comment

WOW, didn't see Felton to the Knicks coming. This is definitely out of LF. 3 yrs 10M is a good deal for Felton.
As for what this means for Lin. I think it doesn't change anything. We resign him. With Shumpert hurt, I would personally wouldn't rush him back. I'd let Kidd play the 2 alongside Lin, with Ray & JR being our 2nd unto Back-Court.
Also happy to be getting back crazy eyes..

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
We can't view it like that because that's not how the Knicks are viewing it. These aren't going to be solely PG's in Woody's system. Kidd and Felton will see time at the two, probably Lin too at times.
I'm not sure you why you keep thinking that us crossing the luxury tax threshold affects the team in anyway. We're already over the cap, adding these guys along the way isn't really impacting anything financially that will hurt the team. Paying Lin $15 million two years down the line is about the only "bad" thing going on our with our salary cap situation."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Matt Barnes & Knicks...
With Fields gone, the Knicks will need more help on the wing. As it stands, Smith could be the Knicks' starting shooting guard.
Veteran forward Matt Barnes is on the Knicks' radar, according to a league source who said the interest is mutual. Other free agents who remain unsigned include Carlos Delfino, Mickael Pietrus, Randy Foye and Shannon Brown. Minimum salaries might not be enough to sign some of those players, though."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
Per Marc Berman:
One of things you learn in covering #Knicks is you don't cross owner James Dolan. He is a very loyal guy but when disloyalty is shown, you are done with him. That may very well be case here with Jeremy Lin. It wasn't just the money, which was obscene in third year. As we have reported last couple of days, the renegotiation of an offer sheet that was agreed upon and leaked to press - after Woodson publicly said they'd match and he'd be starter - was a kick in gut to organization.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
