He's most certainly not at 10 per year, even with this contract. For one year he's at 9 and change, and if he doesn't pan out, he's an asset with an expiring contract.

    Thank you Houston!

Lin had pretty good games last year but for sure his skills doesn't match this proposed salary.

I think his jersey sales in China and Asian market will easily match his salary and more. (Probably make Knicks 30 Million in one year.. easily)

If I was NY GM, I will keep Lin even if he becomes 3rd option PG in the future.

Money makes sense in this case and Lin does help this team in basketball way too. Just don't expect D. Rose out of him.

By the way, do you know if Bulls made an attempt to go after Ray Allen?

I didn't hear this buzz so just wondering if Ray came out and said he doesn't want to go to Chicago or something.

Chicago has any plans for SG?

I've said this before and most people disagreed with me, but I hate restricted free agency. The concept of it is stupid it's just teams trying to outbid the original team. Free agency in itself leads to over paying RFA just makes it unnecessarily worse.

Not sure if anyone realizes this (I sure didn't) but:

MT @NetsDaily Last chance for sign-and-trades is this year. Tax teams (BKN, NYK, LAL, etc) can't use s&t in future

Yes, but it is necessary so the team can have a better shot at retaining young, good players for their original team.

I agree but to be fair in this new CBA there is a floor each team has to get to.

I'm kinda new to NBA free agency & trade scene so please forgive me for asking such a noob question.

I read up on Restricted vs Non-Restricted free agency but still can't figure out how does one become a restricted free agent.

Is this right understanding? Anyone who had a team contract is a RFA and players from FA pool (no team contract) is Non-RFA?

Rookie contracts that expire going into RFA. This allows for the team to retain a player if another team bids by matching that bid.

There are also other contract types such as team options, player options, etc.

I have no problem with it. I just didn't realize it.

So a team like the Lakers/Nets that's looking to acquire Dwight Howard, for instance, must acquire him this year. They can't wait until next year when he's a FA because Orlando will not be able to S&T him to them.

So basically, Dwight will end up on the Lakers/Nets before the year is out.

                      • 2011 CBA: Taxpaying teams have a smaller midlevel exception, can acquire less salary in trade, and cannot use the biannual exception. Starting in 2013-14, teams more than $4 million above the tax level cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction.

I actually didn't know the answer to that either, thanks!

                        Came across this earlier:
Keep your fingers crossed, Lakers fans, the moment may be arriving any minute now. According to Jackie Pepper of PepperOnSports , the Lakers are considering an offer from the Orlando Magic for Dwight Howard , and they are very interested...

Overpaying is never a good thing. It creates a market for wasting cap space. How about instead of making the last year a QO year you just make it a regular contract year.

The object is to offer a contract that makes it difficult for the other teams to match.

Wouldn't the team then be just bidding against themselves?
