    According to Deron himself...yes.

Deron Williams says he was close to choosing Mavs but acquisition of Joe Johnson pushed him to Nets.
After news broke that Johnson was Brooklyn-bound, Williams said he felt the Nets, "for a longer time would be the better team.
"Joe got me over the hump. I've never played with anybody like him, a guy on the wing that can get his own shot and also get me involved and is a great defender.
@NYDNInterNets: Deron Williams on him and Joe Johnson -- "we could have one of the top backcourts in the NBA for sure."
    Al Iannazzone
Deron Williams said he made his decision quickly because he doesn't "like being the topic of discussion." Yet he is now the face of a franchise in Brooklyn and with an expanding fan base. "I’m excited," Williams said. "It’s one of the reasons I stayed. The buzz in Brooklyn is big. The arena is going to be amazing. I think it’s going to be an exciting time. I think we’re going to have a pretty good team this year so we have a chance to become better. A lot of our guys are a little underrated. Brook Lopez is a a little undervalued. Gerald Wallace, people say he’s old. He’s 30 years old. The same with Joe. It will kind of be like a rejuvenation for all of us."

I'm sure the 20 million or whatever extra it was in cash was a part of his decision...

If anyone wants to watch an awkward EG interview or just read his quotes.

Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, Lightning

Yeah, that's pretty hard to watch. Hopefully NO can resolve this, or can find something else. The team is fun as hell to watch. The team still needs more help to be a success. I'm curious as to what they'll do.

            Ouch!

Turns out that poster mkchase who got banned (or whatever his name was) was right. EG is pissed that they drafted Austin Rivers and didn't go for a big man. He's pissed at NO management for what he considered a low-ball extension offer in January.

Let that man go to Phoenix.

We don't know the full truth (I'm sure EG is exaggerating some points) but he does not look happy at all. And it's only July.

            Let him go.

Yeaahh from what i'm hearing from Clippers fans and Indiana/Illinois fans now this was to be expected.

It's just frustrating especially the Rivers part, I hate having to draft/get a guy to make someone happy when it's a rebuilding process. I'm sure he's pissed about the contract as well, but what did he expect at the time he played a grand total of 2 games or something for NO.

I'm sure it was but what exactly did Dallas show him for their vision of building a competitive team?

                Seems like nothing.

I kind of agree with you.

This is just a messy situation though. Best to part ways. We've seen guys with that face before. It's not going to turn out good.

                    I will say this though.

I cannot wait for Phoenix to play N.O.

EG's gonna be gunning for Rivers to make him cry.

I see what you're saying but I wouldn't let him go. That contract is tradable and eventually they could get some assets back for him.

                        Did you watch the video?

He's disgruntled and it's only July.

I don't think he'd even want to step foot into the same lockeroom with Austin Rivers.

It's petty...but he is not happy at all. He seems ready to file a grievance or something like that. I know it seems stupid but it's not going to end well in NO.

That's my stance, give it a year to see if he buys in and if not trade him off to the highest bidder.

NO couldn't do a sign and trade with PHX?

I'm sure they could get back say....Markieff Morris, Robin Lopez, and a 1st round pick for EG? That seem plausible?

I believe PHX would have to retract the offer and have EG sign with NO and work all that out before the 11, I could be wrong I've just read a lot of conflicting reports when it comes to S&T with RFA
