Knicks not matching Lin's offer W.D.U.T?

What do you think about the Knicks now not wanting to match the Rockets offer for J.Lin?

I'm huge on chemistry and really wanted Lin back. I could understand the problem with how the Rockets structured the contract that steered the Knicks away.

What Im confused about and if anyone can answer this I would be grateful.

Why couldnt the Knicks just match the dollar amount and distribute the money differently , so they would not get hit with such a high luxury tax?

Or if Lin did not sign the Rockets offer then could of the Knicks just did their own structure of the contract but making sure they match the dollar amount Lin would have received fromt the Rockets?

It just strange to me that he was a Knick and since another team makes a offer in a weird way , why does the team have to match it exactly as far as how the money is distributed?

Re: Knicks not matching Lin's offer W.D.U.T?

They way Houston structured Lin's contract would give him a higher payment one year than the other years Lin is under contract with Houston. Which in return for the Knicks would give them a greater luxury tax. Looking around $25-$45 million in taxes. The Knicks would have to pay damn near $60 mil just to keep him on the squad. Really think that he should deserve a contract with that amount for only playing 25 games? I know the Knicks don't think so!
So What Houston did in a sneaky way was offer Lin $14.98 mil in his 3rd year which is a balloon payment, often known as the deal killer for the other team to match. While with Houston Lin would get around $8 million a year, with the Knicks matching it will sky rocket Lin's deal to that $50-60 million range for the Knicks, with fees and the luxury tax. Lin wouldn't see that much mone but, it would be like the Kincks are paying him around that amount. I hope this clarify's what you are wondering.
