I don't really have an issue either way but, I'm not sure I'd consider this a difficult clutch shot. In fact, on the spectrum of clutch shots, I'd say this may have been one of the easiest ones. It's a wide open spot up three pointer from the middle of the floor.

I'd have to disagree. While not "difficult" persay.. What was on the line, the immense pressure, what it would have meant if the Lakers lost that game. I'd say its pretty damn difficult to stay calm and even drain a wide open shot like that.

But that's the beauty of perception.

True enough. I was just thinking a clutch shot, by default, is going to have all of that pressure. I'm not sure how much more it multiplies for a bigger game. For instance, I'd feel a certain amount of adrenaline and expectation for a clutch moment during my regular season when I played, and I'd feel just about the same adrenaline and expectation during a clutch moment in the state playoffs, even if the crowd was bigger and more was on the line. I think the pressure's probably maximized for most people taking clutch shots.

As such, I kind of felt if we were accounting for pressure, nearly every single clutch shot ever made could probably be argued for inclusion in this thread. Like this, because it could be argued it was the NBA Finals and he had the pressure of Michael Flipping Jordan expecting him to make that shot:

But to me, I'd say that's an "easy" clutch shot, on the spectrum of clutch shots. And again, I say "easy" in quotes, because every clutch shot is obviously going to be difficult to some extent, but the matter of executing (open jumper) was pretty preferable.

Sometimes the mental pressure the player has when taking the shot can be greater than the actual on court pressure. Again it depends from player to player, but I'm certain that what happens in the mind is more powerful (for good or for bad).
Only respectable people deserve respect, you destroyed the game.

This is surely true. I'm not really sure there's a way we can gauge that though. For instance, if Richard Hamilton made a wide-open, game-winning, breakaway, right-handed, un-rushed layup at the buzzer (essentially, the easiest shot ever), but after the game he said, "Oh man, that was the most pressure I've ever felt in the history of my life, and maybe anyone else's", would it qualify his shot as being one of the most difficult in NBA history?

I'd say, considering Robert Horry's seemingly impervious nature to clutch situations, that open three pointer was probably easier than a lot of other player's game-winning open three pointers. I think, if someone were to start a thread titled, "The Easiest Clutch Shots Ever Made" the Horry shot might be one of the very first nominees. He wasn't running off a screen, he wasn't eluding a defense, he wasn't pulling up off the dribble, he wasn't firing from the corner, he wasn't battling for a board inside. He literally stood there, had a ball fall into his lap, and he shot it, from dead center. In terms of pressure situations, that's probably about as simple as they come.

And again, truly, I don't really care either way, for this is just a fun thread regardless. But the debate about what makes a shot difficult is enjoyable.
