You have him over Bill Russell who has 11 rings and 5 MVPs.. That's the only argument I need lol

To me, this should be the best player of the last 20 years. Can we really get any historical context or has anybody seen the greats from the 50's and 60's play?

Why is there absolutely no love for Kareem in this thread? How are people rating him so low?.. 6 rings, 6 MVPs (most all time), 2 finals MVPs.. Best scoring season was 35ppg best rebounding season at 17.. Has reached 4 blocks in a year multiple times.. Only missed making the all NBA team 2 times from 1969 to 1986.. NBA all time career leader in points, 3rd in blocks, and 4th in rebounds.. Stud! There is no better resume than that..

Also, I completely do not understand how people are putting Kobe so high, I understand if you're a Kobe fan you of course like him but when HONESTLY RATING the top players ever?

The only argument anybody ever has for Kobe is "he has 5 rings" or "he scored 81 points" yet you're sticking him ahead of Russell who had 11 rings and Wilt who scored 100 points.. There is zero logic there..

Also not to mention a championship is a team effort and this is a PLAYER thread and an MVP award is a player award, Kareem has 6 times as many as Kobe, Wilt has 4 times as many, Russell has 5 times as many, Magic and Bird both and even Moses Malone I think at 3 times as many.. I just don't understand were it comes from.......?

Not to mention people are sticking him above Shaq.. You're going to tell me that when they played together Shaq won all 3 of the finals MVPs but some how Kobe was the better player..?
Son, what are you talking about? Most people have Kareem as # 2 or 3. About Kobe, you can not use MVPs to judge the skill. Kobe should of got atleast one more than he did. Steve Nash stole one iirc. Furthermore, the main goal of most careers is to win championships. If you are a superstar, rings are a fine way to help judge skill. I also believe Kobe has quite a lot of First all nba team selections on his resume as well.

Kobe stole his from Chris Paul. There's really no way to spin the MVP argument in Kobe's favor either way.

You realize one player can't win a ring right? How do rings justify who makes the list? I don't see Robert Horry or D Fish on anybody lists? Hell, nobody has Pippen either and he has 6 of them..

How many times do you guys need to rank Top 10 players? Or top anything players?

Considering locking or merging every other "list" thread from here on out.

This may be true, but overall Kobe has had many wonderful seasons.

Read what I said again. As a superstar, rings should certainly be apart of judging how succesful player is. If you're not a super star, then you should not be in these discussions anyway. Why do you think Tim Duncan is considered the best pf ever by many over karl malone or garnett?

I did read what you said. You said MVPs can not judge a players skill while rings can..

My point was that MVPs do judge skill.. Duncan also had more MVPs than Garnett (who isn't even a top 5 PF IMO) or Karl Malone.. It isn't rings alone.. I would still have Duncan ahead of Malone even if he was beat out by the Lakers for most of his rings..

Are you going to say if Kobe wins 7 rings he's better than Jordan???? Hell he isn't even better than LeBron who's sitting on 1 ring.. Rings to me don't mean as much as MVPs. If anything they're equal..

A championship is a TEAM award anyways, not sure how a team award can judge a single players skill set more than winning an MVP can.

The comment about mvp wss bad wording on my part. What i meant to say was that they cannot solely be used to judge how great a player is. They are certainly apart of the process, but not the only thing. Going back to nash, do you consider him a better player than kobe? Also, both malone and duncan have the same amount of mvps.

and Steve Nash stole so many from Kobe and people tend to forget Kobe numbers when he had Shaq 30 ppg 6.9 reb(7) 5.9 ast(6) and 28.5 ppg 5.9 reb(6) 5 ast just to name a few of his numbers those are defiantly MVP's right there if Shaq wasn't on his team
