Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
King_B_Mack... Man my family was pretty much in the same situation. I will always remember my first 2 nba games. The first one was to see Allen Iverson his rookie year vs the Nets and LeBron James vs the Knicks. I paid almost $300 Allen Iverson and $400 for LeBron. That was for 4 tickets (2 to each game). I saved all my little pay checks to go to both smh.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
I'd argue the only difference is that the "card" will only change because of injury or incapacity (like an arrest). I've been to a ton of UFC fights and had a few main events change on me but they were all because of injury. Never because the promoter wanted to rest a fighter for a fight in another city.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Or play at least 1 of the 3. Tony Parker isnt exactly old. Pop should understand that he does have some responsibility to the paying fans.Comment

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
@aholbert, why sue the Spurs when they did not decide the ticket prices but the Miami Heat did. Again;
McGuinness contends that he, as well as other fans, "suffered economic damages" as a result of paying a premium price for a ticket that shouldn't cost more.
Now the Spurs have already been dealt with by the league (fined 250k) and they should have no responsibility to the Miami Heat ticket holders."Most people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them"Comment

So again, shouldn't he be suing the Miami Heat as they decided to charge more for the ticket based on the "value" of the team they are playing.

Again, I don't think it's right at all, coaches should be allowed to do whatever they want without ANY concern of money making, but this is how it is.
This is interesting though because I understand where both sides are coming from, the NBA is a business first. The sport part comes second. And to the people saying "it was a great game..ect." You can't put a value on entertainment. Some fans may not care at all if the Spurs almost won, maybe they went for the sole purpose of seeing Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili.Last edited by BringTheHeat; 01-16-2013, 05:49 PM."To the last minute, to the last second, to the last man, we fight"Comment

The Heat had the same expectation that the fans did...that the Spurs would play their best players if healthy. So they were justified in charging more.Comment

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
Agree to disagree fellas. So would you rather see your team lose to a full strength spurs team, or see your team pull out a win, in a tight ball game? The Heat charged more for the game, the Spurs have no obligation to those who are paying the ticket prices in my mind. I think it's ridiculous. Could be my old man style of thinking, ha.
Should all of the fans who purchased tickets to Raw's 20th anniversary show the other night, sue Miami FL or the WWE because Stone Cold didn't show up? Or Shawn Michaels, or the Undertaker? Or any of the other key guys that were expected to be at the show? I just really don't see the big deal. It's unfortunate at most, if you're the biggest Spurs fan in the world, and you finally score tickets to the game, only for the Big 3/4 not play. But then again, you bought tickets to "the game", not to "the team".
Just my train of thought, however delusional I might be.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
I'm a lawyer so its no surprise that I totally agree with and understand this suit. Teams like the Heat charge more money for games against top teams like the Heat. Most teams do this now. The Wizards do the same thing because my tickets to see the Magic were only $30 but to see the Lakers it is around $60. You are charged more because these players (Duncan, Parker etc) were supposed to play and because the Heat value a game featuring those players higher than others. If those players dont play, its reasonable to demand some sort of refund. No because the Spurs were the direct cause of the damages. Also the Spurs do have a responsibility to all NBA fans. These are not 30 completely separate franchises. They are all members of a partnership. If one team's actions negatively affects another team's fanbase, team #1 should be responsible for any damages that occur. In this case, the Spurs should be held responsible.
The Heat had the same expectation that the fans did...that the Spurs would play their best players if healthy. So they were justified in charging more.
At the end of the day, what did the Spurs do that broke any league rules or laws? I think Stern overstepped his bounds by punishing them, but they are a part of the NBA and therefore he has that right. It doesn't work the same with the law, and legally I don't see how this holds any weight to the Spurs specifically. Very weak case against the NBA imo, but more more of a case than against the team (from my assumed understanding of these things).Comment

Also ur Raw analogy doesn't work. WWE never announced that Austin or michaels wouldn't be at raw. The heat sold tickets based on Duncan and Parker appearing.Comment

For example; Could one not sue an opposing team after a loss to your 'favorite' team? Suing for depression as the loss negatively affected me emotionally and "economically"?
I think all of this is pretty ridiculous to be honest.
I see it akin to taking my girl to a theatre show and the backup singer is there, could one sue for that as long as its not a medical reason (I can live with that) for why the main (star) singer is out?Last edited by JasonWilliams55; 01-16-2013, 07:13 PM."Most people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them"Comment

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
A couple of problems with that. First you are assuming that every one attending the game is a heat fan. I'm a lakers fan but I have wizards season tickets. I would be furious if I go to the lakers game which I paid more than other games for and Kobe, Dwight and Pau are healthy but are sent home. Especially when the Lakers only visit DC once a year. The lakers winning would have no bearing on if I felt like I was cheated or not.
Also ur Raw analogy doesn't work. WWE never announced that Austin or michaels wouldn't be at raw. The heat sold tickets based on Duncan and Parker appearing.
I've seen numerous ticket packages advertise, such and such players against your favorite team, blah blah blah, even when the players in question are on the injured reserve. Case in point, see Kevin Love and the Timberwolves take on Danny Granger and the Pacers...
Hmmm, well, both of those guys are out, and are out for a while. Granted, those two guys are arguably not in the same class as Duncan/Ginobli/Parker. You're still seeing the same "teams" playing that is on the ticket. Now if you buy a ticket and it says San Antonio Spurs and Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker vs Miami Heat with Lebron, Bosh and Wade... then you have a valid point. The point remains, the Team played. Certain players may not have, but yes, the San Antonio Spurs were on the court that night.
I don't know Aaron, I guess I'm of the mindset that the fans are seeing a great game. They got that.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players
I know it's easy to say "You saw a great game". And it was a awesome game. But what if I'm some casual basketball fan. And I love the Spurs. Love Tim Duncan. I save my every last penny just to see him play. I get to the game and find out that not only is Duncan not playing... But no Parker or Manu. Guys... I just lost the whole reason I saved my pennies to come to this game. I think the situation could of been handled much better. Dress the players and don't play them. Even start them and then take them out of the game. But send them home. A kid can't even get his signature if you send the players home. And I'm talking on a minor scale here. Lets not get into Ads money.
If you're a casual fan and rarely watch games, you damn sure are not going to be a fan of the Spurs, much less Tim Duncan.
Assuming this suit has some legs, I still don't understand why it wouldn't be directed at the league. In the same sense the league commissioner had the right to punish the Spurs for this, any action because of it should be directed at the NBA. If every team can adjust their tickets as they personally see fit, that's a problem with the league in and of itself. But the idea that any charge is for individuals in a team sport is a result of the NBA marketing and promoting this type of set up at the gate.
At the end of the day, what did the Spurs do that broke any league rules or laws? I should sue the Nets for purposely playing like **** their last 2 years in NJ, especially last year during the whole Dwightmare nonsense.#RespectTheCultureComment

Also, I dont get what the game being good has to do with anything. If the game was a 30 point Heat blowout, would that then justify this lawsuit in your eyes? The fans still didnt get to see the Spurs top players.Comment
