For example; Could one not sue an opposing team after a loss to your 'favorite' team? Suing for depression as the loss negatively affected me emotionally and "economically"?

I think all of this is pretty ridiculous to be honest.

I see it akin to taking my girl to a theatre show and the backup singer is there, could one sue for that as long as its not a medical reason (I can live with that) for why the main (star) singer is out?
Lets compare Apples to Apples. You buy tickets to a Jay-Z concert in Miami. Jay has a big concert at MSG scheduled two days later in NY. Jay decides he wants to rest so he isnt tired during the MSG concert so he decides to skip the Miami concert and have his hypeman, Memphis Bleek, perform all his songs. The stage is the same, the songs are the same, Bleek does a pretty good impersonation of Jay but its not Jay-Z. You telling me you wouldnt demand a refund? You would be OK if Ticketmaster says "What the problem? You bought a ticket to a concert, got a concert and got to hear all the songs you wanted.

Now I could understand if Jay was sick and couldnt perform but you would be OK if Jay decided to skip the concert just because he thought the MSG concert was more important? Because thats what Pop did. He sent his stars home because he thought the Saturday game against the Grizzlies was more important.

Imo those are 2 different things, you bought the ticket that specifically says "Jay-Z". Meanwhile for an NBA game it says Spurs/Heat and that's exactly what the fans still got.
Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, Lightning

Like I said before if the Heat advertise like every other NBA team, the ads for this game said "Tim Duncan and the Spurs". Also the Jay example was to respond to JWill's singer/backup singer example.

If this were Joe Average fan pushing this, maybe I could understand. What's more likely is that this guy is simply a blood-sucking leech that's doing this to take advantage of the publicity, not for any perceived "damages" he was forced to endure.

So the Heat charge more, completely independent of any actual Spurs organizational input, and you want to sue the Spurs?

            Nonsense.

I wonder how the Spurs will respond to this in Feb - between 6 Feb and 13 Feb they have 5 games, all on the road.

He wouldnt have grounds to sue if he didnt actually have tickets to the game.

And that's the thing. Making up fake injuries vs telling the truth shouldn't be the difference between lawsuits from fans or not. Phil Jackson's Bulls and Lakers always had players that had mysterious injuries until the playoffs. Everyone knew the deal. It really bothers me that this only matters bc of the names of the players involved. All of the examples presented don't apply imo bc this is a team sport. The issues with it are related to marketing it as a bunch of individuals and now there are lawsuits to support that notion?

Like I keep saying. Pop could of handled it different way. To go and play vs those weak teams. And then send your best players home for a *national televised game*. Yea someone needs to be held accountable.

And it's not the Spurs fault really. I also blame LeBron James. He has been the hottest road ticket to buy since his second year in the league. You'll be lucky to find a $60 ticket of for his game.

He could've... but it shouldn't be the difference between law suits and not. And even if you believe something should be done about how he handled it, that's what the league did. It's a league "issue" if you even want to call it that. If there is a law suit it should be against the league, and any issue with the teams themselves should be handled by the league.

In that regard, I totally agree you. It's a league issue. Not the teams. But like I said I think someone along the line needs to be held accountable.

I dont get that line of thinking. If anyone was hurt as a result of Pop's actions, it was the fans who attended the game. The Spurs got to rest their stars. The Heat still got the ticket, merchandise, food and ticket revenue from the game. The NBA still got the ad revenue from the TNT broadcast. The fans paid a premium (more than other games) to see the Spurs and their star players but didnt get to see them.

I agree about suing the NBA and in the end thats probably whats going to happen. He will be forced to amend his complaint and add the league.

Another thing that most of you are missing is that this is a class action meaning any of the fans who purchased a ticket to the game can join the lawsuit. This isnt just one fan suing the Spurs. More likely than not, this case will settle for something nominal like a refund of $5-10 per fan which comes out to a total of $200k which is less than the fine the Spurs had to pay. No one is going to get rich off of this.

That's what I was originally asking you about. I'm not even touching who was hurt by this bc I think it's a joke that anyone can say they were... but my feelings and what can actually be done about it probably are two different things. I'm only wondering why this would be a Spurs issue rather than an NBA issue. And I would think it'd be a Heat issue before a Spurs issue as well, but ultimately any connection with the fans I would think falls at the feet of the league, not individual teams.
