Don't look now, but the Los Angeles Clippers, long the laughing stock of the NBA, have won four games in a row. Yes, those Clippers. The Clips beat the Bucks at Staples last night for their 4th consecutive win. It was the first time in 18 years that the Clips have swept a home stand of more than 3 games. That's incredible. In 18 years they didn't have a team that was good enough, or hot enough, or just down right lucky enough, to win 4 straight at home?
How is that even possible? And the credit has to go to Mike Dunleavy. He has made a huge difference so far this season, and they have only played 21 games. They are only 1 game under .500, and that is on Dunleavy. If anything, the roster is less talented than in seasons past, and he is doing more with it. Yes, he has some good players, like Maggette and Brand, but so did a lot of other guys, and they never got it done. Don't get me wrong, the Clippers aren't going to be a playoff team this year, but for them to be riding a 4-game winning streak is huge.
And that is a credit to the coach...and if they were in the pathetic East, they might make the playoffs. 12 of the 14 teams in the west are over .500. Only the Suns (9-16) and the Clippers (10-11) are worse than break even, and the Clips are right there. Yeah, no competitive imbalance there. Only 5 teams in the West are better than .500. That's good for the league.
