Why doesn't George Karl play McGee?

dude is only averaging 19.1 minutes per game. Heck, he even averaged more minutes last season with the Nuggets (20.6 minutes). Its disappointing the fact that 25 minutes is the most he has ever played this season.
Aside from all the boneheaded plays he has made in the past, McGee to me is really the X-Factor from taking the Nuggets from a first-round playoff team to a potential conference final visit.

Reasons why I believe McGee should be given increased minutes:
    • He played really well last season in the playoffs up against all-star big men (Andrew Bynum & Pau Gasol).
    • Sky-rocketing potential and apparently worked on his post moves in the offseason with Hakeem.
    • The Nuggets gave him a 4yr/$44 million contract- You don't offer that kind of money and only play the guy 19 minutes per game ...
    • His Player Efficiency Rating is tremendous. Currently ranking #8 with 21.80. Starter Kosta Koufos is coming in at #151 (14.61).
    • He is not struggling. He is averaging 10.8 points (.555% FG), 5.7 REB, 1.8 BLK- now imagine those numbers when he plays 30+ minutes.

And even in today's game against the Hawks. Starter Kosta Koufos was out with illness, and instead, Mozgov was the replacement. Mozgov ended up playing 27 minutes compared to McGee's 23 minutes even though Mozgov has only averaged 11.6 minutes per game, with several DNP's.

I've read about that in an article a while back but am not too sure how serious it is. Was this recent? because he has played larger minutes in the past with the Wizards.

My guess is that Karl thinks he's more effective in short spurts. Once that consistency is built up, Karl will probably play him more minutes. McGee still makes some questionable decisions, his rebounding has been inconsistent, and he needs to improve on his defensive rotations.

            Pretty much this
I wish I could find the article but the Nuggets feel like Mcgee's a project that they are slowly molding and having him reach his full potiental (boxing out, making proper defensive rotation and not just going for the big time block, being aware on the court) so rather have him out there messing up then pulling him, feeling like they are punishing him they just play him in spurts till they feel like he's completely ready to play full time, smart basketball

Karl gave him 30 minutes last night and he proceeded to put up 20 points (on 9-9 FG and 2-4 FT) and 8 rebounds. He had one ferocious dunk over Ian Mahinmi as well as one of the worst alley-oop attempts in the history of the NBA. If you haven't seen the videos, I suggest you check them out.

He has been playing well but my guess is George Karl doesn't feel he's ready to start yet. Still makes a lot of mistakes

Sky-rocketing potential and apparently worked on his post moves in the offseason with Hakeem.
This is becoming one of the most overrated "improvement" for everyone. Everybody and their momma has worked with Akeem in the offseason lol.

Even I practiced my post moves with Hakeem in the offseason. Bill Clinton and Arnold Schwarzeneger where there too, practicing their post moves.

For all the athleticism Javale has (and it's absurd how much is there), he is one of the dumbest basketball players I've ever seen. If you're his coach, you want him catching lobs, scoring off of cuts, finishing putbacks, and running in transition (He's a pretty fluid runner for a big man). That's about it. When he has to think, bad things happen.
