Outside of Pop and Doc, Who Are The Best/Worst Coaches In The League?

I think it's safe to say those 2 are the best coaches currently in the league(mainly because of their track record and because they've gotten plenty of players to buy into their respective systems) so outside of them, who's in the next group after them?

And then of course, who do you think are the worst coaches in the league?

Re: Outside of Pop and Doc, Who Are The Best/Worst Coaches In The League?

Tom Thibodeau is my pick outside of Pop and Doc as far as best coach in the league. He had to labor as an assistant for almost 20 years before he got his shot. But I think it's worked out for him very well. For a guy who's only been a head coach for 3 years, you would have thought he's been a head coach for 20 years.

The worst coach? None other than Vinny Del Negro. The total opposite of Thibs. A guy who's never been a coach nor an assistant on any level of basketball. Then out of the blue, he suddenly gets a shot to coach an NBA team in 2008. Why? I have no idea. Whatever Paxson was smoking that day, I hope he quit. I'm still scratching my head on what Paxson thought that qualified him to be a head coach of an NBA team. Because he won the championship in NBA 2K8? I dunno.

I would say George Karl has to be up there, been pretty good everywhere he has gone, and as far as worst Randy Wittman, how he has another head coaching position is truly beyond me.

I would also like to mention that I like what Jacques Vaughn is doing with what he has... he might be one to keep an eye on.

I like Byron Scott as a coach and how he handles his players.

I think Mike D'Antoni is one of the worst coaches in the league and I know I'm not alone. He leans too much on his "system" and if he doesn't have players that fit it then he's clueless. He's also horrible at managing egos, disciplining players, and getting players to respect him. Not to mention his lack of adjustments and short rotation.

            3. Thibs
            4. Hollins
            5. Woodson/Carlisle/Karl

Worst is Del Negro, followed closely by Lawerence Frank. Seriously, play Drummond.

No love for Rick Adelman yet? He has always seemed to help average teams reach the playoffs and made playoff teams into contenders. Minnesota has certainly overachieved so far this season considering all of their injuries. Along with Karl (and the retired Jerry Sloan), he has to be one of the most successful coaches without a championship in any professional sport.

Surprised this thread so short considering the amount of Armchair Coaching that goes on here, lol.

Best coaches that come to mind for me:

                  Rick Carlisle
                  Rick Adelman
                  George Karl
                  Tom Thibodeau

                  Worst:

                  Lawrence Frank
                  Vinny Del Negro

I was surprised you made the thread, seems like you don't believe in the idea of a 'bad coach'

                    But to answer your question

Thibs is #3 for me after Pop & Doc

VDN is definitely #1 on the bad side

                      Best (no particular order):
                      Spoelstra
                      Karl
                      Thibs
                      Brooks
                      Adelmann
                      Vogel

                      Worst:
                      Frank
                      Casey
                      Wittman

Is Doc really still considered a top coach? I used to think anyone who could manage all those personalities deserved much respect but in hindsight it doesn't look like that was the case. Combine that with his resume - yes he won a championship, but he also had the original big 3, and the best roster in the league until Miami's big 3....

I still consider him a great defensive coach, but the offense was never impressive to me.... good motivator as well.

I think Scott Skiles is a pretty decent coach who is often forgotten about.

I didn't even consider him to be a good Coach after he won in 08. But when you can keep winning consistently and be a championship contender or in position to contend for one every year(What other team can claim this other than LA and SA)since you last won it all despite the age of your core, at some point credit has to be given to him.

It's almost 5 years later and he's still getting results and having players buy into him so I think it's safe to say he's a good coach and a damn good one at that.
