    Yeah....I wonder why

But I don't know if cards today will be worth so muc. Too many brands. That's what killed the industry and why I stopped collecting. Couldn't keep up.

P2K said it right...when I collected cards in the late 80's there weren't that many different types, but then in the 90's it became all insert related. Most cards in the regular set were worth jack, and you wanted the best inserts. Now there are too many cards, and too many produced, so cards aren't as rare anymore. It was fun when I was a kid, but too many people see it as a way to make money now, so it's not as good as it used to be

An Lyndon Johnson rookie card from 1963?! WOOHOO i'm all over that! j/p

I agree with the sentiments of the last couple posters. The best thing to do is go for memorabilia. That is wait to see if there are any Lebron James rookie year jerseys that are signed or a basketball with his autograph etc etc.

At present it may not be worth TOO much but if Lebron turns out to be the great player everyone makes him out to be than the said memorabilia will go through the roof. Of course such things cost a lot more than cards and you have to do a bit of due diligence before buying.

Would a Lyndon B. Johnson card be when he was president in 1963 or his first year as a politician?

There could be a congressional series of cards and a President series so technically both would be his rookie card

                        Re: Lbj Question

Well, as more and more different card types and card company emerge, there will be more and more Rookie cards for such players as LeBron. Since there will be more, the demand will be low because the supply will be high. MJ's Rookie cards are worth a shiznit because, he was the greatest player ever in the NBA, and they are very rare.

Take MJ's Starting Line-Ups for example. Very rare, and very expensive if you find one for sale. Now that LeBron is here, Todd McFarlane already has King James manufactured so you can find him anywhere on the internet, you can find him more easily than MJ's SLU figures.

And I agree with the poster who said to collect Rookie memoribilia. You're best bet would be to go to some card shops, or look on eBAY for special edition LeBron rookie cards or to get the LeBron McFarlane figures (there are two, but they have the same model just different jersey's). The "variant" McFarlane LeBron will be worth more than the common one.

I think Sportsman was correct regarding memorabilia. I have an official T-Mac posted signed with Glen Grunwald's official seal of approval thing. I got it at a silent auction at ACC. I got this either the last year TMac was with the Raptors or the first year he was with the Magic. It was around $250 but in a few years it could be wrth a lot more
