Do they get the 4th? or are they entered into the lottery as well?

Also, I think they can only get one player from a team. So they may protect only 8, and they could leave 2-3 decent players available, but they can't take more than one. Or I may be wrong.

I'm sure now that we have talked about the Bobcats...someone will probably come up with a Mock Expansion draft.

      Can anyone answer this...

For the unprotected players that they take, do they make new contracts or have to keep the existing one's?

they keep the same one...cause if you look...the top players are always protected...so the guys with short term deals are picked up...due to the cap being so low...they have no choice

There's a good article on ESPN Insider about this. Basically, it talks about how if they draft a player and then waive him, it doesn't count against their cap. So, a team could trade the Bobcats a draft pick and cash to get them to draft a player like Grant Hill or Christian Laettner, and then the Cats would just waive him and not take a cap hit. I'll copy the article and paste it here in a second.

I think it's a lot like an NFL expansion, where they have to have so much of their salary filled by unprotected players, then fill the rest with FA, Rookies, etc.
