Its just gotten to the point that its annoying. BSPN has created the "there's a stat for that" culture and its a mess. You can't even enjoy a game without all of that crap anymore. Dude's are padding hard and holding back over this stuff..its getting out of hand.
I brought up this point in the LeBron thread and I guess it was taken as hating on LeBron from the responses. All these useless throwaway stats are ridiculous nowadays.

Hearing about Vince passing up Bird on the All-Time scoring list, that's a legit stat though. All this other stuff is ridiculous though where we gotta hear about somebody being the first to record a triple double with like 15 as the points, 22 as the rebounds and 11 as the assists while shooting 65% and all this other ridiculous stuff to it.

On another note though. Gotta give the NBA credit for actually doing a good job on scheduling for once. A great way to close out the first half of the season with Miami vs OKC on the national stage.

Not talking about Vince in that post but at this point some of this scoring is a bit less impressive since they've gotten a boost from the league with the rule changes, and some of them just go for it intentionally whereas those guys were just playing ball and hit those records...

Anyway, the NBA botched the scheduling this year to be honest, and I am wary of their motives when putting this stuff together.

Oh don't get me wrong with mentioning passing Larry Bird, I don't think him passing Larry Legend automatically puts him in the Hall of Fame, I just really don't get why there's so much question with him. He won a gold medal for Team USA, was a top 5 player for numerous years and put up ridiculous stats with a horrible team around him most of his years in Toronto. I think all this lack of heart stuff is silly, just because Vince doesn't have the ice cold stare in his eyes of a Kobe or the obvious emotion like Westbrook doesn't mean he didn't care. Vince is pretty obviously a laid back personality, which is really uncommon for NBA superstars, so I understand why people question him but since he's been in Dallas he's shown nothing but heart and passion for this team. Its too bad he couldn't have been apart of the 10-11 squad and gotten a championship.

There was a time when he didnt care like he should have but people like to hold on to negatives if they can.. You always see the lame jokes pop up about him and mcrady being cousins or for the fact that he's not dunking on people and leading the league in scoring... thats the kind of stuff this warped generation of media focus' on.

let him get some kind of weird stat sheet going a couple of games and he'll be on sportscenter as soon as the show starts.

A lot of the stats are just cool little throwaways here & there, not to establish that the player is superior in every way...and it's nothing new

People just react based on who the stats are about I guess, lol

You mean the media? Nobody sits around as fans and come up with this random crap which seems like its coming from an endless pit of crap.

Most of the time, yes I agree with you. Sometimes, like for instance yesterday morning, Sportscenter was doing the whole "LeBron is having one of the best 5-game runs in NBA history". So they start to show his stats and how he has only missed X amount of shots... blah blah.

Then they compare Bird and Jordan's best 5-game runs to LeBron's.

Then they bring Tim Legler on and show the graphic "Who's the best player after 736 games: Michael Jordan or LeBron James?"

                I changed the channel. Haha

..and that's exactly where it leads up to and that's the point that im making.

They need to quit it because it always ends up in some obscure comparison place.. Its ridiculous

                    Yep, perfect example.

The former stats I can deal with. they're just little tidbits....you either enjoy them or not...I don't really get the recent trend of trying to take away from them...unless they are taken to ESPN type levels..

I hate when any sports game does this. They bring up stats which obviously favors their player over some of the best ever, but having the most specific/detailed thing you can imagine.

In NBA, you'd see one commentator bring up something like "___ is the only player in NBA history to average ___ points,___ rebounds,___ assists,___ steals,___ blocks of all players who've had ___ consecutive home game wins" or something random like that.

Raptors made playoffs in 3 of his first 4 seasons with the team. It was just what happened starting from 2002(Carter got injured and missed entire playoffs) which is what made things go downhill for Raptors.

Of his 7 seasons with Raptors, 1st one was bad(Only Raptors 4th season in existence), seasons 2-4 were great, 5 was bad(but ONLY cause VC missed half the season), 6 things were already falling apart, and 7 is when he gave up and left.

So his injury is big thing that hurt Raptors, that combined with terrible management is what ruined them. Raptors almost won the 2002 playoff series against the Pistons without VC even playing(Raptors lost series 3-2). Had he not gotten injured, Raptors would be completely diff team.

ESPN gonna ESPN, can't get mad at a dog because it barks.

Anywho, the LA v LA game should be nice tonight. LAC holds the lead at 2-0 this year. LAC has all their guys back, Billups had a solid game last night with 19 points.

Bryant will look to make up for his lack of shooting from last game I'm sure. That shooting arm is rested

Lakers care about wins... Most of them at least.

I hope they don't get embarassed and that Dwight will show up again.

Who's ready for Miami-OKC? Thunder need a win to avoid first two game losing streak since the first two games of the year.

Question is, is Kobe gonna be on troll mode again and chilling in the first half or did he make whatever point he tries to make when he starts not shooting?
