Ya. I think it's just easier for people(especially media) to bash Ross for winning cause he plays in Toronto and isn't a big name player. Even TNT guys were bashing James White(before he even did a single dunk). So a guy who MIGHT have done 360 from free throw line or something, gets bashed cause he's not a big name guy....

I never heard any kind of bashing for Nate,Josh Smith, AI2 and so on. And those weren't known guys during their first contest. How can fans get hyped up watching something if the commentators are doing nothing but ripping on the guys on tv. TNT guys either need to actually do their jobs as commentators, or stop calling this dunk contest, cause right now, they sound like nothing more than just random bashers in the audience. Barely any professionalism at all.


Sure, Ross did get lucky not even getting penalized for all those missed attempts, but it's nothing new in the dunk contest. Many guys haven't gotten lower score due to missed dunks.

Andre Iguodala with behind the back too. He didn't even go 360 like Ross did, but he didn't get it on 1st try either, and he got a 10. So Ross was no diff from that.

I don't know, they could try making their dunks for a change. The commentators are what saved the contest and T Ross' last two dunks. I don't need Chuck and crew trying to hype up garbage that is clearly garbage to everybody watching. We already had hype men for the garbage the last two years and it might've been the worst two years of the contest.

This years dunk competition was pretty much garbage. Players should be more creative. Using props brings more excitement (IMO), like when Paul George pulled off the Tron theme or Blake Griffin with the car. Also, I don't understand why Ross was in the dunk contest...

lol. If anything, I think Raptors should just hold their own dunk contest in April(after their season is over,but NBA playoffs is going on). Derozan,Ross,Gay and possibly Nate(Bulls left deal involving Nate on table for Raptors to accept if they want.....). That'd be better group of guys competing in dunk contest than any official NBA dunk contest in recent history.


But seriously though, I don't get the problem with those no name players entering the contest. That's how guys make a name for themselves. How many people knew Vince Carter that well before 2000 dunk contest? Or Jason Richardson?Josh Smith? Nate Robinson? The dunk contest is what made them a known name in the NBA. It's just the fact that the commentators are burying the guys in past couple of years which hurts them.

It's hard to get familiar with a player, if all the commentators are saying (in what is likely one of the only times most people will ever see this guy) is a bunch of negative things about how the guys are no name players who barely plays.

They said that about Ross and Faried too. Faried is a starter for Nuggets and Ross plays 17 mins per game(behind DeRozan/Gay) in his ROOKIE season, don't get how that counts as a guy who barely plays.

Everybody knew who all those guys were. You must not of watched much basketball. Hell, people were excited for Vince before he even left UNC both bc of his talent and his inevitable trip to the dunk contest. Vince was the "next jordan" of that time.

All the big name rookies and sophs did the dunj contest back in the day. It was like a right of passage, esp with Jordan owning the show after a star like Dr. J. When Lebron punked out it started getting worse. And no offense, it is bc od the no names.

In response to another post, no Levron did NOT pass bc he knew he'd win. It wasnt always this format and he punked out before so what was the excuse then?

He won't do it bc he knows everyone will expect him to rival Jordan. We know that is literally impossible in dunk contests bc the wow factor comes with newness and there isn't much new left to do. More importantly, he's an insane athlete and bball player but he's not a great dunker.

Does the all star game start at 8pmEST or what? By start, I mean like even the pregame intros/anthems? Cause my tv guide says 7pmEST it starts, but I'm guessing that's just the random TNT tipoff stuff.
