One And Done Rule What If
How's this for a discussion. What if the NBA had decide to put the one and done rule the year after Kevin Garnett came in the league? Pretty much making him the last ever player to jump from high school to the NBA. How would have going to college or playing overseas for at least a year would have effect guys like Kobe, Lebron, T-Mac, Jermaine O'Neal, etc as well as the league as a whole? What schools would they have gone too? I heard for example that if Kobe had gone to college he would have gone to Duke. And he would have been in the 1997 Draft if he played there only one year. I know Duncan was the consensus top pick that year, but would Kobe have made the Spurs think a little before pulling the trigger on Timmy?Last edited by BJNT; 02-13-2013, 02:09 AM.Tags: None -
Re: One And Done Rule What If
I know this doesn't answer your question, but me personally I hate the one and done rule. If it were up to me, I'd do just like the NFL and make players stay at least 3 years before declaring for the draft. It's probably the main reason why I don't watch college basketball even though I would like to, and the main reason why I hate Kentucky (I know you fans don't care haha)
If a player is ready at 19, so be it, keep him in college and just let him dominate. There's only one player IMO who fell under the one and done rule recently and that's Kyrie Irving... can't remember if the rule was implemented when Rose came out, or whether he stayed 2+ years (shame on me)
For the past players you mentioned, it's hard to say what would've happened, who knows if Kobe would've went to Duke, would Coach K somehow implemented some "togetherness" in Kobe making him be less selfish as an NBA player. Those players are rare, and hard to find... If I'm not mistaken the rule was put in place for educational purposes??? I could be wrong. Who knows what JR Smith would've been had he gone to college, or if Brandon Jennings would've been a better player. I still don't think this rule helps or changes anything and I'd personally hope they'd make it at least 2 years, maybe 3. -
What if LeBron ended up going to Ohio State and stayed to eventually team up with Greg Oden, Mike Conley, and Daequan Cook..Comment

Re: One And Done Rule What If
I heard that Dwight Howard was looking at UNC before he decided to go to the NBA. If he did imagine this Tar Heel lineup.
C: Dwight Howard
PF:Sean May
SF:Jawad Williams
SG:Rashad McCants
PG:Raymond Felton
Add JR Smith(who was also going to UNC before he blew up in the McDonald's All-American game) and Marvin Williams coming off the bench. That Tar Heels team that won the National Championship would have been looking at an undefeated season as well. Plus 6 first round picks. And maybe Dwight would have developed some maturity and become less wishy-washy.Comment
