I don't think James harden will make the hall of fame, and your saying he's manu 2.0?

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this. I know I don't have much of a leg to stand on either so I'll say it and hide. But looking at this guy play is just beautiful. He plays the right way. Always making the sound team decision. He's been doing it for years. If I had a vote... Andre Miller gets into the Hall of Fame. The way he plays the game of basketball is beautiful.

This is like the Marc Jackson argument...

Was Bruce Bowen mentioned in here? Does he get in on his defense alone?

I only brought him up because on another forum someone labeled him "the best perimeter defender" of all time.

Just wanted to see how far he'd go in this convo.

How far does that guy's frame of reference go back? Bowen was good, but not at the level of guys like T.R. Dunn or Michael Cooper.

He's probably not that old. I think most guys on forums are teens and early 20s nowadays - too young to remember the "glory years" haha. I'm only 28 but I figured Pippen would get a look.

Pippen might have been the best team defender of all time. Man on man though? Dunn, Cooper, Jordan, DeBusschere, Rodman, Gus Johnson were the top class.

Please, Bowen was on that level as a one-on-one perimeter defender. He could literally guard four positions and did it in an era when the rules were geared toward offense. He in no way is HOFer, but deserves credit as one of the greatest defensive specialists of all-time.

If Harden continues to register 25, 5 and 5 throughout the remainder of his career, then he'll have a strong chance of making the Hall (barring injury). His game is definitely similar to Manu in a variety of ways. I even call Harden "Black Ginobili" as his nickname.

I'm sure many won't agree, but Rodman making the HOF has set the precedent, that I believe Mutombo, Mourning and Wallace all deserve to be in the Hall of Fame as some point.

It's hard to say those guys get in because Rodman is in.. I guess they were all good players who excelled at defense and rebounding but Rodman has 5 rings.. And was a key piece to arguably the greatest team of all time that won 72 games..

I know it's hard to say a guy gets in just because of championships, but Rodman was more than that.

He gave you the the effort, defense, and rebounding you get from a guy like Wallace and combined that with the winning resume of someone like Horry..

Plus he did it for an extended period of time. Wallace, Zo, and Mutombo didn't have very long lasting "prime" years..

I'm not totally sure because I've only been watching the NBA since the late-1980's/early-1990's. I'd say he's beneath guys like Pippen, Moncrief and Cooper because he didn't create havoc in the passing lanes, not that that alone makes a great defender, but he definitely was right underneath those guys. His lateral quickness and smarts allowed him to play elite defense even into his mid to late-30's.

Pippen could guard any position on the floor. He had great footwork and was very smart about when to go for the steal. Pippen could lock anyone up most nights. You could leave him on an island with his man which allowed the team's defense to be better since they could help in other areas. But I'll just agree to disagree that he was a great team defender while and Jordan was the lockdown perimeter guy.

Is 'Gus' Dennis Johnson's nickname or another player? Right now a face isn't clicking with that name - well, the sports announcer's face is there haha.
