Could Someone Please Explain This Please?
Can someone explain to me the difference between someone getting cut, waived or released? Do all three mean the EXACT same thing or not?
Thanks for your help.Tags: None -

In basketball....yes.
Waived is different in Football, Baseball, and Hockey.
Technically there isn't a "Waiver" in Basketball.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!

Re: Could Someone Please Explain This Please?
The reason I'm asking is because I was curious to know if a player who is waived has his contract bought out differently than when they are released. Did that make sense.
For example at NBA.com it states that Chicago WAIVED Linton Johnson and Houston RELEASED Eddie Griffin. Are those two player's contracts dealt with DIFFERENTLY?Comment

Re: Could Someone Please Explain This Please?
There is so much "mumbo jumbo" in contracts these days. A player can be RELEASED from their contract, which is kind of a mutual decision, except for in cases of Guarenteed contracts which the NBA is full of (The NFL is the only team where the bulk of the league have No Guarenteed contracts - they do have some "Guarenteed Money" though).
Waived would still make the team responsible for the contract, unless there was some strange clause that I don't know about.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!
