Man I really, really, REALLY hope Lebron doesn't suffer a season ending injury no time soon. Just based on the reactions from Rose's injury and now Kobe.....good lord.

Please, PLEASE don't suffer a serious injury any time soon, Bron LOL.

Don't want to think about a NBA without Lebron. With greats like Kobe and Duncan leaving soon, the league will basically be Lebron and a bunch of second tier stars.

Kobe says he won't play as a role player & he won't play if he cannot play
at a high caliber. That was before this injury, but now I believe he understands how much he really loves the game & loves to play.
He'll come back from this but no where near the level he has been in years past. If he ever averages more than 15 pts. a game again, I'd be surprised
                (& impressed).

                  Re: is kobe done?

Like I said in the game thread, he'll never be the player he was, but that dude's ego isn't going to let this be the last we see of him. He'll eventually make a comeback however short lived it will be.

                  3 Michael Jordan 32,292
                  4 KOBE BRYANT 31,617

That's why right there. Will he catch him now? Probably not with this injury but that's going to be what drives him to come back. I have no doubt he'll put in the work and whether he's 36 or 37 when he gets back he'll play at least one more year or half a season whatever his foot allows.

I think he will come back for one season and still be effective, he won't be the same Kobe but I think he is competitive and smart enough to change his game. Don't see him driving and dunking but see him posting up and taking jump shots.

Best part about this is when he does come back he'll have that last vintage game where he drops 40 or something

That's what I'm excited for. As a Laker fan, I've taken some of his 40-point games for granted, cause to us, it's "typical Kobe". Now I'm like, I want one more 40 point game, one more 50, one more poster dunk, cocky man biting his jersey while busting a move, one more wtf is that underbite face, but most importantly, one more championship push, not this 8 seed crap.

That would be the worst part. Cause then we gotta get a Sportscenter Top Ten Kobe 40 point games, we gotta get some random *** stat comparison about most 40 point, 1 ast, 3 reb, 1tech foul games by a 36 year old coming off a season ending injury. There'll be a SI cover tribute to Kobe and so on. If he can come back and still have a game like that it'd be nice considering where he's at right now, but that definitely would NOT be the best part of this.

To each their own, people went nuts when Jordan dropped 43 at age 40. I was excited then and I'd be excited now.

Also, after Kobe and Dirk are gone, the post fadeaway is gone.

Durant ought to develop a post fadeaway. The OP is a prime example why one should gather their emotions prior to posting--just sayin'.

Regardless, if this 'it' for Kobe, hopefully, when the time comes he will be able and allowed to enter a game for a few possessions and drain mid-range jumper i.e. Charles Barkley. Moreover, I hope he can retire a Laker and if he does come back for any substantial amount of time that he is at least marginally effective. Mostly though, I just don't want to see him end his career struggling, especially after the skills and tenacity he displayed this season.

I think he'll bounce back. His personality will force him to continue and I think he's smart enough to learn how to re-invent his game. I think he'll model himself after MJ in that department and still be at least a 25 point per game scorer.
