Re: Shaq suspended for his comments

Does anyone else wish that Shaq would just shut up? He is a great athlete but acts like an idiot at times. I think if he had a work ethic this guy could be the greatest player of all time but he consistently comes into camp out of shape. Isn't he being paid millions of dollars to play a game that requires you to stay in shape? Sorry for the rant but he just ticks me off. And no I wouldn't say it to his face because he might sit on me.

Who cares what has happened to others? It doesn't make what he did anymore right. Let me see what happens if I go tell the President of my Company (just like Stern) that the people who oversee my job (refs in Shaqs case) suck and need to be dealt with. I will also cuss to make my point more apparant. Let's see if I still have my job at the end of the day. Heck, if I got suspended and lost only one day's pay, I would probably do it!! However, I doubt that is what I would get.

That's true, but these are not normal jobs. And those are not normal people. They get paid more money to play a game than most people do to defend the country, or go to space, or whatever else we do out here.

Shaq is important to the L, and important to the game, so you can't compare what he did/said to what we could/would do in our normal jobs.

That being said, I can see both sides to this issue. The L is just setting a precedent here. Don't bad-mouth the L or it's refs. That's pretty much like pushing a ref and kicking him. You'll get a game. At the same time, if they did this to Shaq, I kinda wish that they did it to Rasheed also. He said things that were far worse. And just cause it wasn't on live TV, it doesn't make it better.

I mean come on, I knew about the F-bomb and all that other stuff way early in life. It's not like it's new to kids now-a-days. For goodness sake, they have the internet now. They have Janet's boobies hanging out ( ). They got a lot more things to be concerned about than Shaq speaking his mind.

Shaq should really learn to be quiet every now and then tho. And the L should really learn to teach their refs how to handle certain games and situations. It's a tough thing to deal with on both sides.

If Shaq retired tomorrow, I bet that the NBA would still draw the same and be just as profitable.

Who cares if this is a normal job or not?? A job is a job. He has 3 bosses. The coach, the owner, the commish. Bottom Line. If he REALLY wanted to do something about the officiating, then I bet the NBA has a way players can approach that. Whether it be a meeting with the director of officials or with Stern himself. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Shaq wants to be "cool" and call Stern out on TV.

I agree with everything you said

Just a side note. The Pacers complained about JO getting fouled so much and not getting to the free throw line, so they sent tape after tape to the Director of officiating. The officiating has gotten better, but there are still a lot of fouls that should be called on him that arent.

Shaq IMO has no room to complain. If the refs called the game like the should, he would foul out in the 2nd-3rd qtr.

I agree with what you said. There is a right way and a wrong way to do it. And clearly Shaq took the wrong way.

But I'm gonna have to disagree about a job being a job. He cannot get fired for just saying something. Whereas you and I can. He get's paid about $275,000 a game. That's for 1 nights work. About 2.5 hours. 3/4 of which is actually on the court. The other 1/4 is on the bench. That's a ton of money. And it's a guaranteed contract, which is totally different than a normal job. They can damn near get away with anything and still get paid. That doesn't seem like a normal job to me.

Shaq is important to the L, and important to the game, so you can't compare what he did/said to what we could/would do in our normal jobs.
