I started following the NBA around 2002-2003 I think?
Back then, I use to follow the Orlando Magic because T-Mac was my favourite player. Living in Australia, we had no coverage of NBA games at all, and there was no League Pass back then, so the only chance I could watch games were just highlight reels they would play on the news (a segment called 'Sports Tonight'). When T-Mac got traded to the Rockets in 2004, it was then that I started supporting the Rockets.

I think it was around 2007, I started following D-Wade because T-Mac was missing games because of back spasms, and the fact that I played NBA Live 06 non-stop, and D-Wade was on the cover. Unfortunately D-Wade was also plagued by injuries that season however I continued watching a few Heat & Rocket games. By the 08/09 season, D-Wade was officially my favourite player, over T-Mac (due to constant injuries hence wasn't able to watch much of him play). I think it was this season that D-Wade had a comeback season after his shoulder surgery.

After the 2010 FA period, it was during that season that I started watching Heat games on a regular basis (via free-to-air TV; unfortunately they would only show national TV games). After the loss to the Mavericks in 2011, I decided to purchase League Pass the following season, hence was the first time I watched more than 20 NBA games in a season. During the years LeBron has joined the Heat, he has started to grow on me. Before he joined the Heat, I had neutral feelings about him (i.e., I didn't hate him but I respected him and his game).

Now today, I would still consider D-Wade as my favourite player with LeBron being a close second. Third would be John Wall and fourth is Kyrie Irving. Furthermore, I would consider the Heat as my team, regardless of what happens next year in FA. As a foreigner (with no relations to any NBA cities), I would follow teams based on the player, but now, especially through these past few years, the organisation has grown on me and I would say I'm a Heat supporter for life even if they are the worst team in the next 10 years or so!
