5. Julius Erving - Free Throw Line Dunk: The only reason I put this in here is because he was the first person to really do it and get credit for it. Jordan may have perfected it (as well as Brent Barry and a few others) but Dr. J was the first.
4. Dominique Wilkins - Windmill - He perfected this dunk. Had head over rim, and the power of the dunk was insane.
3. Michael Jordan - windmill side dunk - If you don't know the one I am talking about, he did it in the 1987 Slam Dunk Contest. He ran in from the side and did a picture-perfect, floating-in-the-air windmill. By far and away, this is the most graceful dunk I have EVER seen in my life.
2. Jason Richardson - off-the-glass, thru-the-legs dunk - Why am I putting this so high on the best dunks of all-time list? Because it was SICKENING! I have never in my life seen something like that. Vince Carter took an alley-oop bounce pass and went through the legs but this Richardson dunk has to be perfectly timed and precise to fall. It was just a sick, sick dunk.
And the best dunk of all time that I have ever seen . . .
1. Vince Carter - Olympic dunk over 7'1 defender - By far the most athletic dunk in the history of basketball. Guys, think about it . . . he JUMPED COMPLETELY OVER A MAN WHO STOOD 7 FEET TALL!!! And he did it DURING A GAME!!! I don't know if we will EVER see this dunk topped. Even if Richardson got that last 360, thru-the-legs dunk to fall, it STILL wouldn't be CLOSE to this Carter dunk . . .
Other Notables:
Spud Webb - the man was 5'4. Any dunk he could do is just not human.
Isiah Rider - first man to go thru-the legs.
Michael Jordan - free throw line dunk was sick but done before. Also, when he went around 2 Knick defenders and dunked over Ewing. Sick, but not quite good enough for the list.
Shaquille O'Neal - any man who can take a backboard down deserves to be mentioned.
Darryl Dawkins - see Shaquille O'neal, except Dawkins shattered 'em.
Anyone else have any suggestions or opinion . . . please post 'em.
