Doc Rivers to Clippers for an unprotected 2015 pick

I WAS NOT EMOTIONALY PREPARED FOR THIS. Whatever, if he wants to just leave is in the dust like this, I thank him and wish him nothin but the best.

After all that drama, I figured you would be emotionally prepared to the point of just wanting to get this saga over with to be honest. Either way, I'm glad the deal is finally done, wish Doc the best in LA despite how things ended here.

On again off again and then he says he's done with them and this? Well now KG is my favorite person in the league.

Would really like Brian Shaw. Docs offense was pretty predictable but I think Shaw has got a few tricks up his sleeve.

Crossing my fingers with Karl, Lord knows what he could transform this young, running team into. The '15 pick is probably underwhelming, but who knows, maybe we can package that and our first + a player to move up in a deep draft if we need to.

Not going to happen and why waste the money? Face it the team is going into rebuild mode, they're going to hire a cheap coach with likely little to no experience as an NBA head coach, if they strike gold great if they strike out it won't matter and they'll make a run at someone when they're ready to contend again.

I anticipate KG will not be back (doubt he wants to take part in a rebuild), so the question becomes will he retire or will he waive his NTC to go elsewhere since LAC isn't an option. As much as I want Pierce to retire a Celtic I think Ainge will flip him for whatever he can get as well. Then we're still not in a good place due to all our remaining contracts but hopefully we can find a way to shed some of those.

The Celtics are in for a stretch of not being very good, hopefully they can land a high pick and get a superstar to build around in the future because they don't have man other options at this point with their current cap situation.

Barring injuries/catastrophe, Clippers are going deep into the playoffs and that pick will be in the high 20's, the draft isn't that deep.

He meant "we" as in the clippers keeping the pick in 2014 and instead sending a 2015 draft pick. Either way really the Celtics are getting basically a more expensive 2nd round pick disguised as a first round pick.

Technically yes, but having an offseason thread in the offseason is pretty stupid. So much stuff happens here and there that the forum would just end up with one crosstalk mega-thread. What's next a "season" thread in the actual season? Major things should have their own thread. It's not as if this place gets enough traffic to push anything to page 2.

As for the 2015 pick I think I get it. Pretty much any coach should get two years to prove themselves. In two years if whoever they hire doesn't work out well they can make a big hire in two years, and possibly trade up a slot or two in that draft, or just have 2 first round picks. Really though 2014 vs. 2015 doesn't matter a whole lot for the Celtics. They're going to suck for the next year or two anyway I guess Ainge feels like they'll bottom out this year, get a little bit better next year, and maybe couple those picks to move up in the draft. That's my best guess.

I'm so confused by this situation.... Has a coach ever been traded? Also where does this leave the Celtics smh?

In the NBA? Not that I recall. Where does it leave the Celtics? Not paying a coach that has no chance of doing anything significant with what they have. No sense in driving an S-class Benz when you're living in a shack.
