Re: What exactly is a "bandwagon fan" and am I one?

The idea of blindly following a team even when they're spending long term time in the doldrums is kind of insane to me. Maybe its growing up in a town with no sports teams.

Like we have UNLV, but I don't follow their football team. I don't see a point in doing so. They're terrible and always have been. What would I be cheering for? I've always loosely kept up with the basketball team, bad and good. I cheer them on and always have. But not to the point that most people follow or "live and die" with their respective teams. That kind of gets knocked by the fact I don't really follow college basketball so I can only be so big of a fan, though.

    I just don't get it.

Re: What exactly is a "bandwagon fan" and am I one?

What drives me crazy are the people who picked what was "easy" at the time and instantly became the biggest fans of those teams. For example, the large majority of my friends are Duke and Laker fans. Not to say they are bandwagon fans, but around the time they were old enough to really understand the game and have some team to call "theirs" those were the top dogs, it was just the obvious easy choice.

It would be more understandable if there were only 2 or 3 of those guys, but it's more like 15 to 20 of them. It's obvious to me that's how it happened. We live in Arkansas, and Duke and LA are on total opposite sides of the US. I didn't hear a peep from any of them this year when the Lakers struggled, and I'm sure once the Kobe years are over they will move on to a new team.

Re: What exactly is a "bandwagon fan" and am I one?

I don't mind if you become a "bandwagon fan" so to speak as long as you stick with the team you first picked. For an example if you decided to become a Heat fan because Lebron joined the team I have no issue with that. As long as once he retires/leaves you stick with Miami. If you are a bandwagon fan at first it's understandable sometimes. You might not like the team in your area, or you might not have a team in your area. As long as you pick a team and stick with them through both the good and the bad then I have no issue.

At the end of the day though root for whoever you want. It's whatever makes you personally happy. Who cares if anyone else has a problem with it? It's your life Like whatever the heck you want (That really goes for everything).

Majority of Band wagoners are fans of team that are winning like the 49ers, Oregon, Heat, Yankees... ETC. I have ssssooooo much band wagoners at my school. People like the Oregon Ducks more than hometown school Fresno State. I don't know how many people jumped teams the "Big 3" formed in Miami. But if you want to be a true fan you have to stick with your team through the thick and the thin. Trust me its hard.... i'm still going through it with the Rams and maybe my Lakers soon.

Here is another am I a bandwagon fan question for you all. Being born in Atlanta I love watching all Atlanta sports teams and started paying attention in 2008 when other then the Thrashers we started winning. Recently though I've had a hard time staying with the Hawks. I just dont find them a fun team to watch and because of that I am now turning into a Rockets fan myself as they are one of the most exciting teams in the NBA in my mind. Am I bandwagon fan as far as basketball goes?

In my opinion, you should stick with your hometown team. I know that it is hard, trust me I know, I am a Bobcats fan. Look at it like this, if the Hawks ever get back up there as one of the best teams in the league it will be more satisfying that you continued to back them.

But, like I said that is just my opinion. I would feel bad if stopped supporting my team. I hate the douchebags that cheer for the other team in the building just because it is "trendy" to do so. Not saying you are like that, but I am just sharing my thoughts and feelings when I am at the game.

That is true for the Panthers as well. So many Giants fans were there over the weekend, most have probably never stepped foot in New York,

No offense taken man. And the Hawks are my 5th favorite team right now but ill be rooting for them. I think this post just moved them up in my head a little past the warriors and nuggets.

I also ask because I wasn't really that into NBA basketball until Wade got drafted, because I loved him in college.

NFL my team is the Chiefs, mainly because of Tony Gonzalez and Priest Holmes.

I think a lot of people choose to like a team based on the players on that team
Root for the uniform, not the players.

And ppl, pick 1 friggin team please. Being a fan of multiple teams in the same sport is weak.

I do. You have all these teams to fall back on when your team goes down.

I mean, I still root for certain teams over other teams when my teams not playing sometimes, but I would never call myself a fan of any team other than the Knicks/Yankees/Giants.

Here is the mindet. U think several teams are fun to watch or they interest u. I think u have to have a favorite but im a fan of many teams. In the NFL for example im a die-hard Falcons fan and my second favorite team is whoever is playing the saints. But I like the Lions, Vikings, Texans, Raiders, Browns, Jets. They are teams that intreast me and even though im not following all of them like the Falcons im rooting for them on gameday.

I started rooting for LALakers when they won(*coughcoughriggedcoughcough*) championship title against Kings. I was only 7 and just started watching basketball. Then, I didn't know it was rigged. But it was fun watching Kobe and Shaq dominate them playoffs. I was sad when Shaq left(damn you Kobe..you could've won not 5, not 6..***nning big men stars out of the town ) but I stuck with the team..didn't bandwagon to the Florida..stayed with the Lakers and...ugh...Kwame Brown...It was tough few years...didn't watch as many games I would've liked but the time difference is a killer. And then we got Pau(Mitch, how did you do that?) and got in three straight Finals appearances... Then first round exits...and Dwight Howard happened...I ain't even mad at him for leaving...we knew that we were renting him for a year..at least he played, unlike Bynum. Too many injuries happened (Pau's knees, Nash's foot and back issues, Dwight's back issues, Kobe tearing his achilles)...wasn't the luckiest of the season. I'm actually looking forward to this season with healthy Pau(show dem haterz you got it), healthier Nash (please, play 65 games this season) who is oldest player in the league....And Kobe with yet another chip on his shoulder...and that is when he is the most dangerous for opposition. Thankfully, he adjusted his game so he doesn't rely on his athleticism but on his foot work and occasionally stupid shots...that he somehow makes...SwaggyP should be nice offensive addition that should flourish with Nash, Kobe and Pau drawing double teams...Kobe more than Pau and especially more than Nash.
