I can't remember how the salary cap works in the NBA, but if they acquire Faried, you're talking about around $94 million in salaries next year even if Melo opts out and re-signs (and therefore gets paid a little less next year than he would if he remained under contract).

Shumpert and Faried's contracts are almost exactly the same, with Shumpert making a few 100k more per yearOriginally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Nevermind. Just saw they he's still got another year after this one, so they'd be alright.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 11-13-2013, 03:47 PM.NFL: Bills

Panic move and I hope the Knicks don't make that deal.
But with James Dolan, you just never know.#RespectTheCultureComment

God I'll be pissed if we make that move. And Adam Zagoria tweeted that Denver wants a pick in addition to Shump.

Personally, I think Faried would probably have slightly more trade value than Shump, but I don't think this deal would be good for either side. Knicks need to be targeting guys like Jose Calderon and Ersan Ilyasova IMO (and they completely blew addressing their need for a stretch 4 by making that awful deal for Bargnani).NFL: Bills

Re: 2013-14 Transactions Thread
It's tough to tell re: who's trade value is higher. I'll just lose it if the Knicks give up a pick in this deal. That's inexcusable.
I think Shump's potential is still higher and he's definitely being misused and jerked around by us. It's probably best for him if he gets out of NY. Faried is a hustle guy and can rebound. He can't score at all (I think I read he shot 29% outside the paint last year?), can't stretch the floor and isn't a good defender. While Shump is still raw the last thing we need is yet another one dimensional player on a roster full of one dimensional players. And another poor defensive player to pile in with Melo, Amare and Bargs.
Plus I don't think we'll be able to pay Faried when the time comes, not that we should, so we'll be giving up Shump and a pick for a quick rental. Typical Knick move."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Do the Knicks even have any picks to offer? I thought they didn't have a 1st Rd'er for this year?#RespectTheCultureComment

Stephen A. actually liked the trade. He was basically saying since they're both the same age and have the same motor they were basically the same players except Faried was taller.

Re: 2013-14 Transactions Thread
If Chandler can be the defensive force he's supposed to be, I feel like they could overcome Calderon's defensive deficiencies (did I spell that right?). And Felton is a poor defender as is. I think the Knicks kinda screwed up by trading for Bargnani instead of targeting a Ilyasova kinda guy that brings more than one thing to the table. I think he could definitely co-exist with Chandler and Melo in the front court.NFL: Bills
