Re: 11/19 - 11/25 Games Discussion Thread
You would think Tyson Chandler would get the respect he deserves. This team is always worse when he doesn't play, that's what is going on. People don't seem to want to just say that. It always turns into some bigger discussion about the offense, or Woodson, or Melo, or JR.
This is a bad defensive team missing the key to their defense being passable. Whether it's him missing time or just playing at 70% it's been proven over and over.
Provided he comes back healthy, they'll play better, and this overblown junk will pass. They're the 4th/5th best team in the east, just as most people predicted. Nothing has changed.Comment

A lot of it in my opinion. The offense is an iso fest. I blame that on the coach. Defensively they look lost a lot of that is personnel but the offense looking stagnant I blame on the coach. It's similar to what Averah and PJ were running with the Nets.Comment

Yeah they're still 4th/5th seed but we were all hoping to see them step up and become legit competition for the Pacers and Bulls. I think right now they're a far cry from that. Being 4th or 5th in the east really doesn't say much, and the Knicks are living proof of that right now.Comment

I know it's still early, but this is the saddest thing ever:
PHILADELPHIA - Despite a slow start to the season, the Raptors (4-7) can overtake the surprising 76ers (5-7) in the standings and claim sole possession of first place in the Atlantic when the division rivals meet on Wednesday.Comment

Not sure how anyone impartial could of thought the Knicks would be as good as Chicago or Indiana. There's always the chance, however small, that Melo and JR go crazy and they steal a series, but they're just not as good of a team as the top 3. So I don't see what's changed.
My main thing is that I feel like they're still the same team they were thought to be, they're just missing one of their two most important players. It seems they get jumped on really quickly at the slightest chance. They're no worse of a team today than they were at the beginning of the season but there's articles and talk of them like they aren't living up to expectations by some drastic measure. Like they were supposed to be the best team in the east and now everyone is disappointed because they're not on that level. Yet no one really thought they would be, so where's all the panic and gloom coming from.
For a comparable team, let's say if Marc Gasol went out and the Grizzles slipped (which they actually did anyway starting out, but that's not relevant) people would calmly say "they're a different team with and without Gasol, wait until he returns". But with the Knicks, it turns into a much deeper look at them and all their flaws. As if Chandler never existed and will never return and we all falsely had them as a top 5 team in the league and we're fooled somehow. They are who we thought they were.
Longwinded write up of a minor thing, but had a hard time explaining myself haha.Comment

Ahh I see where you're coming from. So basically you're already in the camp that didn't expect much from them. For some reason I personally thought they had a decent chance I don't even have any reasons for that either.

A lot, though just about any coach would be helpless and hopeless with this roster. But for starters:
1) Stop switching on D.
2) Stop settling for a million mid-range jumpers.
3) Somehow get guys to rotate/help like they actually care."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

The lack of leadership this year is so damn apparent too. Never thought the loss of Kidd, Sheed and Kurt Thomas would have such a big impact. In the NBA only so much leadership can come from your staff, most of it has to come from your players. The Knicks have absolutely none at the moment and when Melo's your best player you can count on that not changing any time soon."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
